𝗧𝗼: 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗖𝗲𝗯𝘂 𝗟𝗚𝗨𝘀 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹

𝗦𝘂𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁: Advisory on Livestock and Poultry Protection during Kanlaon Volcano Ashfall

As ashfall from Kanlaon Volcano reached parts of Cebu, the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) has issued an advisory outlining measures to protect livestock and poultry.

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸𝘀:

• Respiratory problems: Coughing, nasal discharge, labored breathing, and pneumonia.

• Eye and skin irritation: Conjunctivitis, corneal damage, and skin lesions.

• Feed and water contamination: Ash-contaminated forage and water sources may cause gastrointestinal problems and poisoning.

• Reduced productivity: Lower milk yield, egg production, and weight gain.

𝗜𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀:

• Shelter animals indoors or under covered pens.
• Cover and secure water sources, and provide clean stored water.
• Store feed in sealed containers and avoid using ash-covered forage.
• For valuable animals, use improvised cloth masks or wet sacks to help reduce dust inhalation.
• Regularly sweep ash from animal pens; avoid hosing it down.

𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗴-𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀:

• Sulfur dioxide exposure may cause chronic respiratory damage.
• Prolonged ash contamination of forage may lead to fluoride poisoning.
• Economic losses due to reduced productivity and increased veterinary costs.

𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝗚𝗨𝘀:

• Distribute tarpaulins, sakolin, and other protective materials for animal shelters.
• Provide emergency supplies of clean water.
• Conduct veterinary monitoring for respiratory and eye-related cases.
• Issue advisories on the safe use of feed and forage.

Gina-awhag ang tanan nga magpabilin sa ilang panimalay kon dili kinahanglan mogawas ug maggamit og face mask kon mogawas aron mapanalipdan ang panglawas batok sa abo sa bulkan.

Palihug padayon nga bantayi ang opisyal nga pahibalo sa Municipality of Aloguinsan alang sa dugang nga updates.

1. BE ALERT!
Evacuate if necessary

2. IF ROAD VISIBILITY IS LOW, PULL OVER
Do not use windshield wipers to clean volcanic ash as it contains silica glass. Use pressure washer if available.

3. WEAR FACEMASK
Use N95 mask if available

4. WEAR EYE PROTECTION
Wear eye glasses or goggles to avoid eye irritation

5. DO NOT PANIC
Calmly follow precautionary tips and be updated of the latest advisories.
