The Local Government Unit of Alangalang, led by Municipal Mayor Lovell Anne "Lovely" Yu-Castro, alongside members of the Sangguniang Bayan and Department Heads, actively participated in the LUYON Study Program for Sustainable Peatland Management held from August 24–28, 2026.

Organized by the International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR) and co-led by Visayas State University (VSU) Alangalang under the REDAA-funded LUYON Programme, the multi-day learning exchange aimed to strengthen local policies and nature-based solutions for the Leyte Sab-a Basin Peatland.

This initiative underscores LGU Alangalang’s commitment to adopting science-backed environmental policies for sustainable local governance.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊: PCG LT Manuelito Palacio, together with some of his colleagues from the Philippine Coast Guard, paid a courtesy visit to Mayor Lovely Yu-Castro last August 24, 2026 at the Office of the Municipal Mayor.

The courtesy call served as an opportunity to strengthen coordination and foster closer collaboration between the Philippine Coast Guard and the Local Government Unit of Alangalang, particularly in matters concerning public safety, security, and community service.

Mayor Yu-Castro expressed her appreciation for the visit and welcomed the continued partnership and cooperation of the Philippine Coast Guard in advancing the welfare and safety of the community.

Monday Flag Raising Ceremony 🇵🇭

A meaningful start to the week as we gathered for our Monday Flag Raising Ceremony, joined by Mayor Lovely Yu-Castro, Vice Mayor Mario Bague, Sangguniang Bayan Members Gina Balderamos, Blesilda Yu, and Ketchie Barrantes, together with our LGU Department Heads and employees, and representatives from our National Government Agencies.

Some dreams begin quietly with a simple hope that one day, our young people will have an opportunity to pursue higher education without having to leave their hometown.

For Alangalang, that dream became a mission.

The establishment of the Community College of Alangalang (CCA) was never an overnight achievement. It was a journey shaped by vision, determination, countless discussions, hard decisions, legislative support, compliance, construction, and the unwavering belief that education must be brought closer to every Alangalanganon.

There were challenges along the way. There were requirements to meet, obstacles to overcome, and moments when the dream seemed far from becoming reality. But every challenge only strengthened the resolve to continue.

And on August 24, 2026, that dream finally opened its doors.

CCA is more than a building. It is a promise fulfilled. A promise that the children of Alangalang deserve greater opportunities, that education can transform communities, and that when a community chooses to believe in its future, A DREAM CAN BECOME A REALITY.

Today, we do not simply celebrate the opening of a college.

We celebrate the beginning of countless journeys yet to come.

From a dream, to a vision.
From a vision, to a commitment.
From a commitment, to reality.

This is the story of the Community College of Alangalang.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊: The youth of Alangalang took center stage as the municipality officially opened its Linggo ng Kabataan (LNK) Celebration 2026 in Alangalang National High School, with Mayor Lovely Yu-Castro joining young leaders in the celebration.

Spearheaded by the Local Youth Development Office through LYDO Jan Reian Nino Saavedra, in partnership with the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation Office led by its President, Hon. Charlze Jericho Duane Tan, the opening program brought together young people who continue to take an active role in the community.

In her message, Mayor Yu-Castro reminded the young leaders that leadership is not only about holding a position, but also about having the willingness to serve, listen, and make a difference in the lives of others. She likewise administered the Oath-Taking Ceremony of the AYDN Officers and LNK Little Officers, formally welcoming them to their new responsibilities.

LNK Little Mayor Treshia Nicole Tingzon and ANHS Principal Vernon Barraza, Jr. also shared messages during the program, while the SSLG Officers were recognized with Certificates of Appreciation for their valuable participation and support.

The program concluded with a message from JJC Alangalang President Aicelle Jane Poblete.

More than a celebration, the opening of Linggo ng Kabataan 2026 reflects the municipality’s continuing effort to provide young people with spaces where they can speak, lead, participate, and be heard.

The celebration continues with various activities for the youth and will culminate on August 22, 2026, at the Municipal Covered Court, where the municipality will gather once more to recognize and celebrate the participation, talents, and contributions of Alangalang’s young generation.

For Alangalang, empowering the youth means giving them not only a place in today’s community, but also a meaningful role in shaping its future.

𝐈𝐍 𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐓𝐎: The Local Government Unit of Alangalang warmly welcomed Jenny Marx M. Apit, Vice President for Student Affairs and Services/BSSW Faculty Adviser; Dr. Sandra Lynn A. Baybay, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Domingo A. Salubre Jr., Field Instruction Coordinator; and Social Work student-interns from the City College of Ormoc, who paid a courtesy visit to Mayor Lovely Yu-Castro, yesterday at the Office of the Municipal Mayor.

The student-interns are currently undergoing their field internship at the LGU Alangalang, gaining valuable hands-on experience in community-based social work and public service.

Also present during the courtesy visit was Bahay Pag-asa Coordinator Lizer Peralta, RSW, who continues to support the student-interns in their field exposure and activities.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊: The Local Government Unit of Alangalang underwent a Mock Assessment, yesterday at the Executive Room, Office of the Municipal Mayor, conducted by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Alangalang in preparation for the Regional Local Governance Champions (RLGC) Assessment on September 1, 2026.

The activity focused on reviewing the LGU’s compliance with RLGC requirements, validating supporting documents, and identifying areas that may require further action prior to the scheduled assessment.

Mayor Lovely Yu-Castro expressed her full support for the preparatory efforts, emphasizing the LGU’s commitment to strengthening governance performance, ensuring compliance, and continuously improving the delivery of public service.
The mock assessment was conducted by MLGOO Glenn O. Amon, LGOO II Josie Mae B. Elvina, and LGOO II Lyka Mae L. Taboso, with the participation of concerned department heads and personnel overseeing the respective governance areas.

Beyond compliance, the activity provided the LGU an opportunity to assess its current practices, address identified gaps, and strengthen coordination with DILG as it moves closer to the RLGC Assessment.

LGU Alangalang remains committed to good governance, accountability, and responsive public service.
