Alaminos City upskills DIOs through Writing Workshop
ALAMINOS CITY—A total of 48 Departmental Information Officers (DIOs) from the City Government of Alaminos participated in a News, Caption, and Feature Writing Workshop on June 4, 2026, at the City Conference Hall.
The program is an initiative of the City Government of Alaminos, Pangasinan, under the leadership of City Mayor Arth Bryan Celeste, through the Learning and Development Program of City Human Resource Management Office (CHRMO) headed by CGDH I-CHRMO/OIC-City Administrator, Dr. Emielou E. Gellado, in partnership with the City Information Office (CIO), headed by Officer-in-Charge, Venus Balgua, which aims to enhance the participants' writing skills and improve their capacity to effectively disseminate information through their respective pages.
The discussion is focused on the fundamentals of news, caption and feature writing which was discussed by Chester Carlo Trinidad, Government Information Coordinator of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) La Union and Yolanda Sotelo Fuertes, Correspondent of the Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI), with a goal to create a pool of writers to inform, promote, and enhance public awareness of current events and developments in the City.
Participants also expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to enhance their writing skills, which they believe will help them perform their duties as DIOs more effectively.
According to Carlo Lapating, DIO of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the program will help improve the quality of their news writing and social media content, making information more informative and accessible to the City’s constituents.
“Makaktulong po ito sa pag-polish ng captioning and posting namin through social media to make it more informative para sa mga constituents or [and] para sa mga nakafollow sa amin,” Lapating said.
In addition, the City Government, in collaboration with the CHRMO and the CIO, ensures to provide more trainings and capacity building activities to support information officers of the city to deliver accurate and timely public information.
The activity concluded with well-informed and well-equipped DIOs able to write news-worthy stories, and features as the main goal of the program.
