Promoting Safe and Compliant Workplaces through DOLE TAV in Aguilar, Pangasinan
The Department of Labor and Employment Region 1 (DOLE RO1), in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Aguilar through its Public Employment Service Office (PESO), conducted a Technical and Advisory Visit (TAV) Orientation and Safety Officer 1 (SO1) Training on April 23, 2026 at the Social Hall of the Municipal Building in Poblacion, Aguilar, Pangasinan.
The activity was attended by 185 micro-establishment owners and representatives for an informative session on labor standards and workplace safety.
DOLE RO1 Regional Director Exequiel Ronie A. Guzman emphasized that the activity aimed to enhance awareness and compliance with General Labor Standards (GLS) and Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHS), equipping participants with information to ensure lawful, safe, and productive business operations.
Labor Inspectors Engr. Dindo Indasen and Engr. Jeff Calica led the discussions on the implementation of labor laws, workplace safety measures, and the departmentโs various programs and services, including employment facilitation and dispute resolution mechanisms.
Further strengthening compliance initiatives, a free Safety Officer 1 (SO1) Training was conducted in the afternoon session in line with Republic Act No. 11058 and its revised Implementing Rules and Regulations under Department Order No. 252, Series of 2025. Participants were learned about identifying and mitigating workplace hazards, addressing common compliance gaps such as the absence of trained safety officers and lack of first aid orientation.
At the end of the activity, 165 participants successfully completed the SO1 Training and are now certified Safety Officers, ready to apply their learnings in their respective workplaces.
Participants actively engaged in the discussions, raising concerns and seeking clarification on labor-related matters, particularly on occupational safety and health requirements. The resource speakers addressed these inquiries comprehensively, while DOLE assured the provision of a free First Aid Orientation to be scheduled at a later date.
The successful conduct of the TAV Orientation and SO1 Training highlights DOLEโs continued commitment to promoting safe, compliant, and worker-friendly workplaces while supporting the growth and sustainability of micro-establishments in the municipality. Newly certified Safety Officers were likewise encouraged to become safety champions not only in their workplaces but also in their homes and communities. (Jenny/Dennis)
