LOOK | Agno Celebrates its 194th Founding Anniversary

The Local Government Unit of Agno commemorates the 194th Founding Anniversary of the municipality with the theme, โ€œPanangidaydayaw iti Tawid, Panagkaykaysa, ken Panagdur-as.โ€

A Thanksgiving Mass was held today, July 27, 2026, at the St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish, where local officials, employees, and members of the community gathered in gratitude for the municipality's rich history, blessings, and continued progress. The solemn celebration served as an opportunity to give thanks and seek guidance as Agno continues to preserve its heritage and pursue sustainable development.

QUICK FACTS:

According to Diccionario Geogrรกfico, Estadรญstico, Histรณrico de las Islas Filipinas (1851) by Manuel Buzeta, Agno was formerly part of Zambales and was established by the Augustinian Recollects in 1610, although it was not yet recognized as a town. Historical accounts by Fr. Pedro de San Francisco (Historia General de los Religiosos Descalzos, 1756) and Hilario Ocio (Reseรฑa Biogrรกfica de los Religiosos de la Provincia del Santรญsimo Rosario, 1891) identify Agno as a visita (a sub-parish under the town of Bolinao).

Records from the Erecciรณn de Pueblos further indicate that Agno remained a barrio of Balincaguin in the early 1800s. In 1831, Governor-General Pascual Enrile reported the petition of the residents of Agno and Bani to separate from their respective mother towns in both civil and ecclesiastical matters. On July 27, 1832, Governor-General Enrile approved the separation of Agno from Balincaguin and formally established it as a town and parish.

Today, as Agno marks 194 years of history, resilience, and progress, the municipality continues to honor its cultural heritage while working together toward a stronger and more prosperous future.
