: DOST PADAYON NGA NAGPAPAHIMATNGON HA MGA LGU NGAN KATAWHAN HA SINIRANGAN BISAYAS NGA MAG-ANDAM HA POSIBLE NGA LINOG

Padayon nga nagpapahimatngon an Department of Science and Technology (DOST) ha mga Local Government Units (LGUs) ngan ha katawhan nga mag-andam ha posibleng makusog nga linog ha Eastern Visayas.

"Basically, ang purpose natin dito ay to communicate these hazards to our LGU's, to our constituents so that mapag handaan nila kung ano man ang mga hazards na parating sa kanila," subay kan Mengote.

Kun ini nga enerhiya maabot ha iya limit, posible ini magresulta hin kalit nga pagkiwa nga amo an nagdudurot hin linog.

Ha lain nga bahin, ginpapabug-atan gihap han ahensya an posible nga pagkiwa han Philippine Fault Line ngan Philippine Trench, nga posibli magresulta hin makusog nga linog ngan tsunami nga makakaapekto ha pipira nga mga lugar, sugad han Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

"Dapat pag handaan particularly yung Philippine fault doon sa may Guiuan, Eastern Samar kasi yung area na yun ay in between Guian and Surigao is hindi pa masyadong nag mo-move, so yung Philippine trench yan, so nag ge-generate daw siya or parang nag iipon ng energy once ma release yun ay parang 8 yata na magnitude yung ige- generate niya into tsunami" sumala pa kan Mengote.

Ginpahinumdom liwat han DOST an katawhan nga magin andam ha posible nga “Big One,” tungod nga mayda aktibo nga mga fault ha kada probinsya ngan an Philippine Trench ngan Philippine Fault Zone amo an duha nga pinaka-una nga tinikangan han dagko nga seismic activity ha nasud.

DRRM CAPACITY BUILDING:
Basic Life Support and Standard First Aid Training

The Basic Life Support (BLS) and Standard First Aid (SFA) Training was successfully conducted for the personnel and partners of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Abuyog through the facilitation of the Department of Health Region 8, in collaboration with the Leyte Association of DRRM Officers Inc.. The activity was carried out with the full support of Mayor Lemuel Gin K. Traya, whose leadership continues to prioritize strengthening the emergency preparedness and response capability of the municipality.

The Basic Life Support Training was conducted on March 02–03, 2026, followed by the Standard First Aid Training on March 04–06, 2026. The training aimed to enhance the knowledge and practical skills of participants in providing immediate life-saving assistance during emergencies. The sessions covered essential topics such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), management of choking, patient assessment, bleeding control, bandaging, splinting, handling of trauma cases, and first aid for medical and environmental emergencies.

Participants of the training were composed of responders and stakeholders from various institutions, including personnel from the MDRRMO Abuyog, faculty members from Abuyog Community College, students from the same institution who are also active DRRM volunteers, nurse from the Rural Health Unit of Abuyog, and medical personnel from Jordan Hospital. The participation of these diverse sectors highlights the importance of a multi-sectoral approach in building a resilient and prepared community capable of responding to emergencies.

The conduct of the BLS and SFA training underscores the significance of equipping both responders and community partners with standardized life-saving techniques that can be applied during disasters, accidents, and other emergency incidents. As frontliners in disaster response and health emergencies, it is crucial that responders and volunteers possess the competence and confidence to provide immediate care while awaiting advanced medical support.

Through the technical guidance of the Department of Health Region 8 and the collaborative support of partner institutions, the training served as an important step in strengthening the operational readiness of local responders and volunteers. Ultimately, the activity contributes to the municipality’s continuing efforts to promote a culture of safety, preparedness, and resilience in the community.
