Consular personnel from the U.S. Embassy in Lima will visit Cusco on June 10-11, 2026 and June 24-25, 2026. Services Available:



Passport Application: Passport appointments will be available for adults and minors. As appointments are limited; adults eligible for mail-in application services are encouraged to use the mail-in passport renewal program.

To request an appointment, send the following documents to [email protected] with the subject “Passport Application CUSCO” and your name:

· DS-11 or DS-82 Form, filled out electronically (with barcode)

· Scanned copy of current U.S. Passport



Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA): CRBA appointments will be available to document U.S. citizenship of a child born abroad to a U.S. citizen parent or parents.

To request a CRBA appointment, follow these steps:

1. Create a MyTravelGov https://mytravel.state.gov/account. Watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_8DmVyZruY for assistance.

2. Access eCRBA and submit your application online.

3. Submit payment ($100) on Pay.gov. This is the only way to pay for these services. We cannot take cash or credit card payments.

4. Send us an email to [email protected] including the subject “eCRBA Appointment Request CUSCO” and the case number.



Once your e-mail with the eCRBA case number is received, the case will be reviewed and you will be contacted by email to schedule an appointment for an interview with the Consular Officer in Cusco. The presence of the parents and the child/children is required on the day of the appointment.

Security Alert: Peruvian General Elections (Sunday, April 12, 2026)





Event:​ Peru will hold general elections on Sunday, April 12, 2026. There may be an increase in political activity, campaign events, and public demonstrations before, during, and after the dates of the general elections and any subsequent runoff elections. Elections are a routine part of the democratic process; however, they can sometimes come with temporary disruptions such as increased police presence, traffic congestion, and/or transportation delays. For this reason, it is important to remain aware of your surroundings and take simple steps to reduce risk during this period.

We encourage U.S. citizens living in Peru to take a few basic preparedness steps at home. Ensure you have essential household supplies such as food, water, and any necessary medications for several days, and keep mobile devices charged in case communication updates are issued.

Avoid large crowds, political rallies, and demonstrations. If you are near a demonstration or encounter civil unrest, prioritize your personal safety by moving away from the area and seeking a secure location such as a nearby business or your residence. Avoid confrontations, remain calm, and depart the area when you feel it is safe to do so.



Actions to take:

· Avoid demonstration areas, large crowds, and roadblocks.

· Follow instructions from the Peruvian National Police, Armed Forces, and other local authorities

· Monitor local media for updates.

· Adjust travel plans to avoid affected areas and allow extra time for delays.

Location: Peru, countrywide

Event: Natural Gas Shortage Impact on Transport and Services in Peru



The Peruvian government has taken emergency measures to reduce energy consumption following the rupture of the country’s main natural gas pipelines. These measures include announcing telework for public sector workers in Lima and Callao, while strongly encouraging the private sector to do the same. The Ministry of Education announced that schools will move to virtual classes for the week of March 9-13, 2026. These measures likely affect Peruvian government operations and services as well as availability of buses, taxis, and other transportation for the week of March 9, 2026 and possibly longer.



U.S. citizens traveling in Peru are recommended to check with travel and transportation companies regarding any impact of the energy shortages and adjust plans accordingly. At this time, the U.S. Embassy in Lima will continue with previously scheduled visa and U.S. citizen services appointments. Applicants unable to attend their appointments should reschedule in advance using the Visa and Passport/Notarial appointment systems.

Weather Alert - U. S. Embassy Lima, Peru (February 26, 2026)

Location: Peru

Event: The Government of Peru declared a State of Emergency (Level 4) due to heavy rainfall and landslides in the following regions in Peru: Amazonas, Áncash, Arequipa, Cajamarca, Ica, Junín, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Lima, Madre de Dios, Piura, Puno, San Martín, and Tumbes.

Peru's weather service (SENAMHI) forecasts a short break in the heavy rains after February 27 but warns that intense rainfall may return between March 5-6. Peru's El Niño monitoring commission (ENFEN) reports that the coastal El Niño weather pattern could continue through November 2026.

In a flood situation, people are urged to stay away from streams and rivers and reconsider crossing through standing bodies of water of unknown depth, and to be attentive to the recommendations of local authorities.

Prior to traveling to tourist destinations in the region, please check ahead of time to see if they are open with iPeru (travel organization managed by Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism) (https://www.peru.travel/en/useful-data/iperu).

Actions to Take:

Be aware of your surroundings.
Notify friends and family of your safety.
Carry proper Identification, including your U.S. passport with a current (country) visa.
Have an evacuation plan that does not rely on U.S. government assistance.

Demonstrators are planning multiple protests throughout Peru on January 8 and 9, 2026 on a variety of issues. The protests are expected to be small and peaceful, however even small gatherings may lead to increased police presence, traffic disruptions, and restricted access in the surrounding areas.

The aforementioned demonstrations are reported to take place at the following dates/times:

Thursday, January 8

6:00 p.m. at Plaza Bolognesi, Central Lima
Friday, January 9

10:00 a.m. at the U.S. Embassy in Surco, Lima
3:00 p.m. at PetroPeru in San Isidro, Lima
6:00 p.m. at the Palace of Justice, Central Lima

We recommend that U.S. citizens avoid large gatherings and leave any area where crowds or protests develop.

U.S. citizens should be aware of gatherings related to the events in Venezuela. While such gatherings have so far been reported as peaceful and celebratory, we recommend that U.S. citizens avoid large gatherings and leave any area where crowds or protests develop. Expect a heightened security presence and possible crowds around the Venezuelan Embassy and similar institutions, as well as common protest sites in Central Lima.
