Brooklyn Silat Indonesian martial arts defense system What Buka Jalan Pentjak Silat? Buka Jalan seeks to create openings – in martial arts and in life!

Buka Jalan Pentjak Silat is the system of Indonesain fighting developed by Guru Cass Magda of the Magda Institute of Martial Arts in Reseda, CA. It draws from more than 20 styles of silat he has studied and incorporates sophisticated hand movements, footwork, joint manipulations, throws, and groundwork. The world’s largest archipelago stretches like a huge scimitar from Malaysia to New Guinea comp

rised of more than 13,000 islands and is home to a deadly fighting art known as “Silat”, or “Pentjak Silat.”

The word “Buka “means to open, while “Jalan “means the way or the path “Pentjak” means; the body movements used in the training method and the word “Silat” means; the application of those movements or the actual “fight.” Each style of Pentjak Silat has its own formal curriculum, history and traditions, some shrouded in secrecy and some open to the public.. Buka Jalan also opens the way for someone to develop an understanding of Pentjak Silat.
