Mānawatia a Matariki!
Nau mai, haere mai e te whānau.

It is that special time of year when we gather to reflect on the year that has passed, celebrate the present, and look forward to the future. Your tamariki may have come home and talked about the toi they have been creating to share with you for this event.

We invite you to join us for our annual Matariki evening. A time to connect as a hapori, share some beautiful kai, and showcase the hard work and creativity of our tamariki.

Rātu (Tuesday), 23rd of June
From 5:00 PM onwards

Te Maramataka | Our Evening
5:00 PM – Kai and Kōrero: Classrooms open! Come wander the Matariki Art Trail around the kura, see what your tamariki have been creating, and share some warm kai together.

6:00 PM – Te Atamira | The Stage: We will gather at the front of Te Whare Hikingia ngā Reorua for our performances. We have a different stage set up this year so everyone gets a beautiful view of our stars on stage.

Our Performance Order:
Whakapuāwai (welcoming you as you arrive to the stage)
Juniors
Middles
Te Tau Ihu (leading our closing)

A small favour for the kai pot...
Like last year, we are providing the main ingredients for the hot soup. If your child’s class is making vegetable soup, we kindly ask that they bring in just one vegetable to contribute. Our tamariki love knowing they helped make the kai we all share!

Let’s welcome the Māori New Year together. We can't wait to see you all there!

Kia ora koutou,

Alongside school closing at 2:00pm today and tomorrow to support whānau hui, we will end the week by supporting Life Education. Harold (the giraffe) and Life Education have been part of our school programme for many years and every child has a tale of what they learned when Nadine and her magical caravan came to visit. In Term 3 Life Education visits us again, so let’s show our support for this fantastic programme by wearing yellow and bringing a gold coin donation on Friday. Thanks everyone.

Kia ora koutou,

Whānau hui are on Monday and Tuesday next week, which means school will be closing at 2:00pm on both days to support this process. As the first Interviews begin at 2:00pm, children can be collected from 1:30pm as break starts. If your tamariki is walking please make sure you have planned for their arrival home.

We have had over 330 bookings so far. If you haven’t managed to lock in a slot with your child’s teacher there is still time. I have attached the booking instructions to this post.

During both afternoons you will also be able to contribute to our Board’s information gathering that will in turn help shape our next strategic plan. These first sessions will be based on what you think the role of technology should be in your child’s education and what you see as being the important areas of learning for them. We will have people based in the library that will be keen to hear your thoughts. Thanks for contributing to the future of our kura.

Mornings have certainly become chillier. Good luck to our tamariki braving the cold tomorrow for their Saturday sports (as well as the parents clinging to warm drinks on the sidelines). I have attached the menu for next week to this post. We look forward to seeing you back here next week.

Kia ora koutou,

A sensory garden is a place purposefully designed to explore the five senses. It can help people regulate, connect to the living world, and (one of my favourite pastimes) relax. We have had a team hard at work developing plans for our own sensory garden and we are looking for some support as we move to the next stage. In particular we are looking for:

· Straight PVC piping to help build an outdoor musical instrument. We are looking for various lengths ranging from 75cm to 2m long.

· A number of volunteers to work alongside our garden team and Kaiako in building these items. Skills in woodwork or landscaping would be very beneficial.

· Keen gardeners to support the planting process.

If you are able to support in any way, please get in touch either by sharing your details at the front office or emailing [email protected].

We are rapidly approaching the middle of 2026 already and there couldn’t be a better time to discuss with your tamariki how their year is going. What are they proud of achieving so far? What do they still want to achieve? What are they looking forward to? What would they like some help with? These are just the kind of questions we have been discussing with your tamariki as part of our preparation for the upcoming whānau hui. I have again attached to this post instructions for booking your whānau hui this term.

With that, have a great weekend, enjoy the company of your whānau, and please take some time to look at the attached menu for next week’s school lunches. Take care.

Kia ora koutou,

These cold mornings and blue-sky afternoons are providing some perfect conditions for learning in Onerahi. On this particular afternoon you should be handed (or find in your child’s bag) a newsletter with details around our whānau hui evenings and initial school reports. These are set for the 15th and 16th of June. I have also attached images of the newsletter to this post should your physical copy become lost in transit. Take care team.
