Whangarei Quarry Gardens

Whangarei Quarry Gardens Whangārei Quarry Gardens is a sub-tropical oasis created by volunteers in the remnants of a former stone quarry.

The Quarry Gardens are open year-round and feature subtropical gardens, native forest walks, waterfalls, streams, quarry ruins, tunnels, a very special scented Camellia collection, a huge variety of exotic plant species, and so much more. The Gardens are a community project and have been created through the blood, sweat, tears, and laughter of volunteers, supporting companies, and other interest g

roups. New volunteers are always needed and very welcome! We are looking for gardeners, 'meet and greet' volunteers for our visitor center, as well as extra pairs of hands for our regular events. If you'd like to be involved and part of our community please contact us for more info. Our visitor center is home to the fabulous Quail Cafe, open 9 - 3 Wednesday to Sunday, a small but beautifully stocked gift and plant shop. Located just off SH1 and Open 9am - 5pm every day, entry is by donation, cash or EFTPOS.

We have more new developments for you to admire!
Our entryway is having a major revamp, with the kitchen garden removed, the path widened, and these magnificent Corten steel posts installed, with heavy chain connecting them. The posts mimic towering trees, leading you upward and onward, like a kind of industrial archway. It will be planted out with more lush subtropicals too. Come and have a look for yourself this weekend. 👀

We have a limited number of orchid spikes for sale. These are top-quality flowers and aren't readily available yet, so they won't last long!
P.S - We know a lot of you are hanging out for orchid plants. Please be aware that they are generously donated to us, and we don't know if or when we will get any. If we do get some, sales are on a first-in, first-served basis, and we will not be doing any holds.

It's membership renewal time at Whangarei Quarry Gardens, so it's a great time to join.
Membership is $25 and covers the period from the start of July til the end of June, annually. This covers individual and family memberships. Family memberships cover 4 family members per visit, and under-15s are free.

*Membership gives you free access to The Gardens year-round, excluding special, ticketed events such as Sculpture Northland.

We're very happy to have this part of the recent slip remediation done and dusted! Garden access is now back to normal. Come in via the Visitor Centre, check out the plants for sale, and have a chat to our volunteers.
Our thanks to Whangarei District Council for organising this and Barfoote Construction for doing the mahi.
We're pleased with the result, clean, tidy and safe to boot!
A larger culvert has been installed to better handle heavy water flow, the rocky edge of the stream has been remade (newer and stronger than ever), and the wall has been put in place to catch any potential future debris, should we have more landslides.
