Kia ora,

Well, we’ve had just about everything thrown at us over the last month – but it’s going to take a lot more than that to stop this event.

Kamo and Ngunguru Fire Brigades welcome you and the whanau to:

Kamo Touch a Truck Northlands Biggest Truck Machinery and Emergency Event is full steam ahead, and Port Nikau is filling up fast with trucks, machinery, and emergency services for a huge Northland family day out.

Event details
What: Kamo Touch a Truck
Where: Port Nikau, 365 Port Road, Whangārei
When: Saturday 2 May, 9.00 am – 2.00 pm

We’re lining the place with big gear, small gear – size doesn’t matter:

Trucks of all shapes and sizes

Crane trucks and Cranes

Diggers, Dozers, Graders, Rollers, Moxys and more.

Hands‑on digger experiences for the kids (and the big kids too!)

The kids won’t just want to see the machines – they’ll want to get up close, sit in cabs, see the controls and meet the people who use this gear every day.

Also joining us again this year will be Mini Mack, offering rides throughout the day. This is always a huge hit with the kids – and, if we’re honest, we’ve seen a few “big kids” enjoying a ride in the back as well.
Chris is passionate about bringing the trucking industry to life for the next generation and helping to plant the seed early, and we really appreciate the way Mini Mack adds to the atmosphere and excitement of the event.

Shine that gear UP

🚁 Big Announcement!!

Popping in to join us on 2nd of May 2026 will be our very own Northland Rescue Helicopter team!

We work closely with these legends, but don’t often get the chance to come together and invite the public to get up close, so this is something pretty special. The team has kindly agreed to be part of the event, giving everyone the chance to meet them and check out the chopper.

They’ll be landing at Port Nikau (time to be confirmed), so make sure you’re there to catch it! 🚁🔥

Tsunami testing today. Happy Easter

The tsunami siren test is now complete - thanks everyone and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Remember if you have feedback, the survey form is at this link:

__________

Mōrena Northland, a reminder that the Northland tsunami siren network will be tested at 10am today (Sunday 5 April), coinciding as usual with the end of daylight saving.

The sirens will sound once for around 2 minutes, and their performance will be closely monitored for any faults.

As part of the test, we’re gathering feedback to help us monitor and improve the system – and if you’re near the Northland coast during the test, we’d love to hear from you via the link below.
👉 Could you hear your nearest siren? Was the voice message clear? Are you in a tsunami evacuation zone?
Please let us know by filling out this short survey:

For those of us who live, work, study, or spend time on Northland’s beautiful coast, remember this is only a test. But it’s also a great opportunity to check your tsunami preparedness:

✅ Know your zone – check if your location is in a tsunami evacuation zone and plan your quickest route to safety using our updated maps:

✅ Remember there are multiple alerting methods – along with sirens, we use tools like Emergency Mobile Alerts (EMA). These alerts provide more detail and don’t require any downloads. Just make sure your phone is capable and updated.

✅ Seek further information – if you hear a tsunami siren, or get an alert, check trusted sources for updates.
Our page is a great place to start, but you can also check media websites, or visit:

✅ Know the natural warning signs of a tsunami:
• Unusual sea behaviour – sudden rise or fall in sea level, or strange noises
• A strong earthquake that’s hard to stand in, or one that lasts longer than a minute
If you experience any of these, move immediately inland or to higher ground. Don’t wait for an official warning.
