Resilient Westport

☔️ Good morning Buller

💦 We have a combination of an orange heavy rain warning and particularly high tides which may put pressure on Westport’s stormwater system today, Friday 23 August.

🕰 MetService has issued an orange heavy rain warning for the period of 13 hours from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm today.

🌊 A high tide of 3.8 metres is expected at 1:18 pm, coinciding with the expected heavy rainfall.

👷Buller District Council Emergency Management and WestReef staff are monitoring the situation and advise residents that these two events occurring simultaneously may put pressure on the stormwater system.

💧 Low levels of surface flooding may occur in low-lying areas as a result. Residents are encouraged to take proactive steps to clear their gutters and drains and be prepared to shift items in garages to a higher level if necessary.

🚒If you are concerned about flooding in your area endangering people or property, please call 111.

Good afternoon, Buller. MetService has issued an Orange Weather Warning for The Paparoa Range and the ranges of the Buller District south of Seddonville and northwest of Reefton. To prepare for this rain, ensure your gutters and drains are clear of debris. Please stay off the roads if possible, as heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly, leading to potential surface flooding and slips. Driving conditions may be hazardous. Stay safe!
