🇳🇿 On 12 June 2026, Ambassador Dr Gábor Tamás Nagy visited King’s College in Auckland, one of New Zealand’s most prestigious secondary schools.

The Ambassador met with history teacher Mike Stewart to discuss the school’s planned Central European study tour in 2027, with Hungary once again featuring as a key destination. The visit will provide students with an opportunity to experience Hungary’s rich history, cultural heritage and architectural landmarks first-hand.
King’s College has previously visited Hungary on several occasions, and the positive experiences of both students and teachers have contributed to the school’s decision to include Hungary once again in its European educational programme.

During the visit, the Embassy of Hungary in Wellington presented the school library with a special publication, the National Atlas of Hungary, to support students’ learning about Hungary’s geography, history and culture.

🇭🇺 2026. június 12-én Dr. Nagy Gábor Tamás nagykövet látogatást tett az aucklandi King’s College-ban, Új-Zéland egyik legrangosabb középiskolájában.

A nagykövet megbeszélést folytatott Mike Stewart történelemtanárral az intézmény 2027-re tervezett közép-európai tanulmányútjáról, amelynek egyik kiemelt állomása Magyarország lesz. A program célja, hogy a diákok személyesen is megismerhessék hazánk gazdag történelmi örökségét, kulturális értékeit és épített örökségét.
A King’s College diákjai korábban már több alkalommal is ellátogattak Magyarországra, és az ott szerzett tapasztalatok jelentősen hozzájárultak ahhoz, hogy az iskola ismét hazánkat választotta európai tanulmányútjának egyik fontos helyszínéül.

A látogatás alkalmával a Magyarország Wellingtoni Nagykövetsége egy különleges kiadványt, a Magyarország Nemzeti Atlaszát adományozta az iskola könyvtárának, támogatva ezzel a diákok földrajzi, történelmi és kulturális ismereteinek bővítését.

🇳🇿 On 11 June 2026, H.E. Dr Gábor Tamás Nagy, Ambassador of Hungary to New Zealand, attended the Fieldays agricultural and innovation exhibition in Hamilton.

As part of the programme, the Ambassador participated in the “A Partnership in Agri-Innovation – EU–NZ” luncheon hosted by the Delegation of the European Union. Participants were welcomed by Lawrence Meredith. The event also featured remarks by Hon. Todd McClay, Minister for Trade and Investment, and Hon. Tana Potaka, Minister for Māori Development.

During the afternoon, members of the Diplomatic Corps received a briefing from officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) on New Zealand’s economic and trade priorities. The programme concluded with an innovation showcase organised by NZTE, highlighting the latest developments in New Zealand’s agricultural and technology sectors.

🇭🇺 2026. június 11-én Dr. Nagy Gábor Tamás, Magyarország új-zélandi nagykövete részt vett a Hamiltonban megrendezett Fieldays mezőgazdasági és innovációs szakkiállításon.

A rendezvény keretében a nagykövet jelen volt az Európai Unió Delegációja által szervezett „A Partnership in Agri-Innovation – EU–NZ” című munkaebéden, amelyen a résztvevőket Lawrence Meredith, az Európai Unió új-zélandi misszióvezetője köszöntötte. A program során beszédet mondott Todd McClay külkereskedelmi és beruházásösztönzési miniszter, valamint Tana Potaka, a maori fejlesztésekért felelős miniszter.

A délután folyamán a diplomáciai testület tagjai számára az Új-Zélandi Ministry of Foreig Affairs and Trade (MFAT), valamint a New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) szakértői tartottak tájékoztatót Új-Zéland gazdasági és kereskedelmi prioritásairól. A program ezt követően az NZTE által szervezett innovációs bemutatóval folytatódott, amely betekintést nyújtott az új-zélandi agrár- és technológiai szektor legújabb fejlesztéseibe.

🇳🇿 🇭🇺 On 13 June, the bust of Cardinal József Mindszenty was officially unveiled in the garden of St Michael’s Catholic Church in Remuera, Auckland.

Created by renowned Hungarian sculptor Tibor Rieger, the monument was commissioned during the 2025 Mindszenty Memorial Year with the support of the Hungarian Government. It is the first Hungarian memorial in Auckland and was unveiled during the year marking the 70th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.

Hungary was represented at the ceremony by H.E. Dr Gábor Tamás Nagy, Ambassador of Hungary, while Auckland was represented by Deputy Mayor Desley Simpson. The commemorative address was delivered and the monument blessed by H.E. Archbishop Gábor Pintér, Apostolic Nuncio.

Cardinal Mindszenty himself visited Auckland in 1974, when he met members of the Hungarian community who had made New Zealand their home following the events of 1956.

The memorial stands as a lasting symbol of faith, freedom and human dignity, and as an important milestone in Hungarian–New Zealand relations.

🇭🇺🇳🇿 Június 13-án ünnepélyes keretek között felavatták Mindszenty József bíboros mellszobrát az aucklandi St Michael’s Catholic Church kertjében, Remuerában.

A Rieger Tibor szobrászművész által készített alkotás a 2025-ös Mindszenty-emlékév keretében, magyar állami támogatással valósult meg. A mellszobor Auckland első magyar emlékműve, felavatására pedig az 1956-os forradalom és szabadságharc 70. évfordulójának évében került sor.

Az ünnepségen a magyar államot Dr. Nagy Gábor Tamás nagykövet, Auckland városát Desley Simpson alpolgármester képviselte. Avató beszédet mondott, valamint a szobrot megáldotta Őexcellenciája Pintér Gábor érsek, apostoli nuncius.

Mindszenty József bíboros 1974-ben maga is ellátogatott Aucklandba, ahol találkozott az 1956 után Új-Zélandon új otthonra talált magyar közösség tagjaival.

Az emlékmű a hit, a szabadság és az emberi méltóság melletti kiállás maradandó jelképe, valamint a magyar–új-zélandi kapcsolatok fontos mérföldköve.

🇳🇿🇪🇺 On 3 June, the Ambassadors of the European Union Member States accredited to New Zealand met with officials of the Europe Division of New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT).

The discussion was led by Rod Harris, Director of the Europe Division, and focused on New Zealand’s priorities and engagement with Europe in 2026. The participants were welcomed by Paula Wilson, Deputy Secretary responsible for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Australia.

The regular exchange of views provided a valuable opportunity to discuss current developments and to further strengthen cooperation between New Zealand and the European Union.

A megbeszélést Rod Harris főosztályvezető vezette, amelynek középpontjában Új-Zéland 2026-os európai prioritásai és kapcsolatrendszere állt. A résztvevőket Paula Wilson külügyi helyettes államtitkár, az Európáért, a Közel-Keletért, Afrikáért és Ausztráliáért felelős vezető köszöntötte.

Hungary's new government has been formed 🇭🇺

Péter Magyar was elected Prime Minister by the National Assembly on May 9, 2026. In the presence of the Prime Minister, the ministers received the letters of appointment from the President on May 12, and subsequently took their oaths in Parliament. With the ceremony complete, the cabinet formally commenced its mandate to serve the nation. Together with the Prime Minister, the new government consists of 17 members in total. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is headed by Deputy Prime Minister Anita Orbán.

Az Országgyűlés 2026. május 9-én Magyar Pétert választotta miniszterelnökké. A köztársasági elnök a miniszterelnök jelenlétében, 2026. május 12-én adta át a kinevezési okiratokat a minisztereknek, akik ezt követően a Parlamentben letették esküjüket. Az eseménnyel a kabinet tagjai hivatalosan is megkezdték kormányzati munkájukat. Az új kormány a miniszterelnökkel együtt, összesen 17 tagból áll. A Külügyminisztériumot Orbán Anita miniszterelnök-helyettes vezeti.

On 16 March 1848, the Tricolor was officially declared the national flag of Hungary, replacing previous regional variations. The same law also established the "Kossuth Coat of Arms," which later evolved into the current coat of arms.

In the picture, you can see the Hungarian combined Coat of Arms from 1880, located at Buda Castle. This version represents the era of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, blending the ancient Hungarian Árpád stripes with the symbols of the associated kingdoms.

Today, we celebrate these two pillars of our national identity.
