Kua pau te hau! That's a wrap at Fieldays! We ran out of leaves on our rākau - we've had some beautiful engagement with our pātai: how does the land make you feel?

Take a walk with us through the Pavilion at Fieldays. Look out for the back end of a cow before spotting our tree at the end!

Great to see so many out at Fieldays this week 👏

We’ve had some awesome kōrero with those connected to whenua Māori. That’s what this space is all about: connecting, sharing, and supporting the next steps in whenua development.

One of our highlights has been our Fieldays tree 🌳
We set a goal to fill it with leaves by the end of the event—and you’ve shown up in your numbers to make it happen. Each leaf represents a connection, a kōrero, or a future opportunity. And of course, a few Te Tumu Paeroa goodies went home with you too 😉

The Māori Agribusiness Luncheon was hosted by Tama Potaka, which saw many guest speakers address those in attendance, include current Ahuwhenua Young Growers/Farmers alumni Chloe Butcher-Herries, and Ben Purua, Federation of Maori Authorities Inc. (FOMA) Chair Traci Houpapa, and Richard Luxton, the son of the late Hon. John Luxton.

A visit from Te Arikin Kuini Ngā wai hono i te pō, who spent time with Māori businesses across the site— Oku, Waiaraki Spa, Solar Sense, Manawa Honey, Ora Innovation (Mamaku), Ngāti Hauā Mahi Trust, and Maungatautari Sanctuary. They are part of the Reach For The Stars exhibition—showcasing the strength, innovation, and future of Māori enterprise.

If you’re still at Fieldays, come find us—there’s still time to add a leaf 🌿

Auē te te mamae i ahau ē! 💔

He kura tangihia, he maimai aroha 🕊️

Tangi mapu kau ana te iwi Māori i ngā mate nui o te wā. Ko Tā Tamati Reedy tērā, ko Tā Hirini Moko Mead tērā, ko kui Tārati Buckley tērā, ko te rangatira o Ngāti Raukawa, a Ahorangi Whatarangi Winiata tērā kua riro ki te pō.

Te ao Māori is once again at a loss with the passing of Emeritus Professor Whatarangi Winiata (Ngāti Raukawa).

He is well known for his dedication and tireless work in revitalising te reo Māori within his iwi of Ngāti Raukawa, setting up the 25-year Whakatupuranga Rua Mano (Generation 2000) strategy which helped in setting up initiatives to boost Māori development within the iwi.

He founded Te Wānanga o Raukawa in Ōtaki, the first tertiary provider in Aotearoa run by-Māori, for-Māori.

He was also an important figure in the establishment of the Māori Party in 2004, serving as the party’s first President.

HE PĀNUI NĀ TE WHĀNAU

He pānui tuku kōrero noa tēnei kia mōhio ai te motu. Hei āpōpō p**a ai ngā whakamahukitanga mō tōna tangihanga.

This notice is to inform the motu that, as of this afternoon, Whatarangi Winiata has taken his final breath in this world of the living and begun his journey to join his loved ones. At this time, we share this announcement simply to notify the motu of his passing. Further details regarding his tangihanga will be released tomorrow. We kindly ask that tonight and tomorrow, day and evening, be for his whānau as we grieve and come together to mourn our loss.

Nā te whānau o Whatarangi rāua ko Francie Winiata

He kura tangihia, he maimai aroha! 🌿

The respected scholar, rangatira and champion of te reo leaves behind a vision of Hohou i te Rongo for future generations to fulfil.

He aha rā tēnei e kaikini nei i taku ate? E haehae nei i te whatumanawa?

Kei te pītau whakareia, e koro Tāmati. Tēnei a Te Tumu Paeroa e tangi nei, e mapu kau nei.

Tā Tamati Reedy, one of New Zealand’s foremost Māori academics, public servants and language advocates, has died, his whānau announced in a social media post.
