NZ Police & FENZ Athletics Champs 🏃‍♂️🔥

Held at T.E.T Stadium, Inglewood (Taranaki) | March 13–15, 2026

Another epic weekend alongside NZ Masters Athletics, building on last year’s success and bringing together 17 athletes — including plenty of first-timers. With awesome weather and top-notch Taranaki hospitality, it was the perfect stage for competition.

Across the weekend, Police and FENZ athletes dominated — taking home 61 Gold and 1 Silver in the emergency services category, plus 39 Gold, 18 Silver, and 4 Bronze in NZ Masters events. PBs, SBs, and even records were smashed 💪

With big events ahead — including the AP&ES Games (Gold Coast 2026) and a huge 2027 season leading into the World Police & Fire Games in Perth — the momentum is building.

Let’s keep growing the team and show the world what Kiwis can do 🇳🇿

REMINDER: Entries close 01 March 2026.

Keep up your training impetus and I look forward to seeing you in just over a month. As always, any queries please don’t hesitate to reach out to me

Hot off the press, I have just received confirmation that entries for the NZ Masters (and NZ Police & FENZ) Track & Field Championships are now live via the following link:

https://nzmastersathletics.org.nz/event/new-zealand-masters-track-field-championships/

Registration:
Firstly, a reminder that you need to be a member of either an Athletics NZ affiliated club, or a NZ Masters member. The club fees vary around the country, and this is the option if you’re competing in club champs and regional events etc over the summer athletics season anyway. The Masters option is the cheaper one. An annual membership is around $60. If you need to join NZ Masters there is a link to follow at the bottom of the NZ Masters Track & Field Championships page.

Then for the meet itself click on the “ONLINE Entries are NOW OPEN” link of the NZ Masters page and it will redirect you Athletic.Net where the first Tab “Meet Info” discusses how to enter. You may need to create a “New User” account. Follow the steps as outlined.

On the first page of the Event registration proper in Athletic.Net, if you are a serving or retired NZ Police or FENZ member, then please be sure to tick that box as part of your registration.

Cost:
Entry costs are as follows for the combined championships where you will be eligible for medals in both the Emergency Service and National Championships categories:

Registration: $50 and then $15 per event entered (Eg: 100m, 200m and 400m is $50 + $45 = $95 total)

Happy New Year everyone,

There has been an update regarding golf at the 2026 Australasian Police and Emergency Services Games on the Gold Coast.

The three-day golf competition has now booked out. Due to strong demand, the organisers are exploring the option of running an additional two-day “Waitlist Invitational” on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 October 2026, across two Gold Coast courses.

Expressions of Interest are now being sought to determine whether this second competition will proceed. If you are interested, please reply to [email protected]
Once venues and numbers are confirmed, those on the waitlist will be contacted with further details and registration information.

Please feel free to share this with anyone in your golfing circles who may be interested.

We’re looking at bringing the National Volleyball Tournament back in 2026 to Napier and would love to gauge interest from around the country.

Proposed Dates:
Thursday 23 April – Friday 24 April 2026 (both Red Days)
Prizegiving: Friday night at the Napier Fire Station

Saturday 25 April is ANZAC Day, so those who wish can attend the dawn parade. After that, we can organise a round of golf for anyone keen, or you’re welcome to spend the day exploring sunny Napier.

Competition Format:
• Thursday: Round robin
• Friday: Depending on team numbers, a split into Cup (top half) and Plate (bottom half) divisions
• Match Format: Best of 3 sets, with the 3rd set played to 15 points
• Teams to be mixed (minimum of 2 females on court).

Pricing and registration details will be released mid-January once we hear back from the masses if this is a event is a go.

We’ll work through team compositions once we know who’s interested, but mixed teams are preferred if possible.
Please let me know your thoughts or concerns and whether your area would be keen to enter a team/s. Hope to see many of you in the sunny Hawke’s Bay!
Appreciate you all,

🔥 FENZ Sports Council Athlete Spotlight 🔥
A massive congratulations to Richard Chambers, who recently took out the World Championships Standard Distance Triathlon (40 to 44 age group) in Wollongong, Australia.

Richard led from start to finish and crossed the line 90 seconds clear. Here is his race recap 👇

Swim 1500m (18:53 / 1:15 per 100m)
Richard hit the water fast, taking the lead early and opening up an 80 second gap into T1.

Bike 40km (59:19 / 40.15km/h)
A small delay putting on socks did not slow him for long. By the first 1.1km split he was already 1:04 ahead.
With a strong ride, averaging 317 watts, he extended his advantage and rode into T2 with a 2 minute lead.

Run 10km (38:21 / 3:50 per km)
Another 40 seconds gained in transition meant he started the run 2:41 up.
Feeling strong, he held his pace comfortably and enjoyed the final lap on the 3 lap course, knowing the win was his.

⏱ Finish time: 2:00:36
🥇 1st in the 40 to 44 age group
⚡️ 7th fastest time across all age groups

This result is especially meaningful after last year’s tough race in Spain where illness forced Richard to finish in 77th place and spend time in the medical tent. A true comeback.

The FENZ Sports Council is proud to have supported Richard through travel and entry contributions, as this event was entirely self funded.

Congratulations Richard on an outstanding performance and for representing FENZ with excellence.
