Our friends from the North Pacific Fisheries Commission ( ) invites applications for the position of Compliance Manager. The appointment will be for a term of four years, commencing 1 July 2026, with the possibility of further appointment. The Compliance Manager reports to the Executive Secretary regarding fisheries compliance matters of the Commission. The Compliance Manager is required to participate in most aspects of the work of the Secretariat, including the preparation for and attendance (if applicable) of relevant international meetings.

Two workshops (Jack Mackerel Connectivity and Squid Assessment Simulation) have been confirmed to take place immediately prior to the meeting of the SPRFMO Scientific Committee (SC12), in September this year.

• The Jack Mackerel Connectivity Workshop, SCW15 will be held on 26 and 27 September 2024, at the Hotel Jose Antonio Deluxe.

• The Squid Assessment Simulation Workshop, SCW16 will be held on 27 and 28 September 2024, at the Hotel Jose Antonio Deluxe.

Is your organisation interested in becoming a SPRFMO Observer?

Rule 9.2 of the SPRFMO Rules of Procedure sets out the requirements for any non-governmental organisations to apply for Observer Status with SPRFMO:

ā€œA non-governmental organisation wishing to participate as an observer shall notify the Executive Secretary no later than 70 days before the start of the meeting, together with an explanation of its interest in the work of the Commission. The Executive Secretary shall promptly notify the Members of the Commission of the request. Any such non-governmental organisation shall be invited to participate as an observer unless a simple majority of the Members of the Commission objects to the request by notifying the Executive Secretary in writing no later than 40 days before the start of the meeting. Observer status shall remain in effect for future meetings unless the Commission decides otherwise.ā€

Note the following dates for the upcoming SPRFMO meetings:

• SPRFMO Scientific Committee meeting, starting 30 September 2024 –Observer status request required no later than *22 July 2024*.
• SPRFMO Annual (Commission) meeting, starting 11 February 2025 –Observer status request required no later than *03 December 2024*.

Registrations are now open to attend the upcoming 12th meeting of the SPRFMO Scientific Committee (SC12), which will take place in Lima, Peru, between 30 September and 5 October 2024.

Member, CNCP, and Observer delegations are encouraged to send their letters of credentials as much in advance of the meeting as possible.

Recommended hotel, preferential rates, and other relevant information can be found on the SPRFMO website.

SPRFMO is inviting applications for the position of Executive Secretary. The deadline for applications is 1 September 2024.

The appointment of the Executive Secretary is for a term of four years. The starting salary for the SPRFMO Executive Secretary will correspond to the rate applying to a P5, Step 1 official in the United Nations Secretariat unless otherwise decided by the Commission on the basis of relative qualifications, skills, and experience.

*Call for Proposals for a SPRFMO Observer Programme Accreditation Evaluator*

The SPRFMO Commission is seeking an additional external consultancy to undertake the review and evaluation of the observer programme of one Member. The deadline for submission of proposals is *26 April 2024*.

The successful tenderer will be required to, consistent with the process outlined in COMM12-Report Annex 6c:
1. Liaise with the relevant Member, Chairpersons, and the Secretariat throughout the evaluation process;
2. Review the observer programme against the Commission’s minimum standards; and
3. Provide a Final Evaluation Report to the Secretariat in respect of the programme.
It is envisaged that, from 1 January 2027, SPRFMO Members and CNCPs shall only deploy observers from national observer programmes or service providers accredited under the SPRFMO Observer Programme. In principle, observer programmes are accredited under the SPRFMO Observer Programme for a period of 5 years before undergoing re-evaluation. To this end, the successful tenderer may have an opportunity to continue its work with SPRFMO following the initial round of accreditation should the Commission decide.
