It's Volunteering New Zealand Te Wiki TΕ«ao ā-Motu / National Volunteer Week and we’re shouting out our onesie-ful street collection volunteers! 🀩

Each year, hundreds of you volunteer from across the region to spend time collecting for our annual Onesie Appeal. Here's to the giraffes, unicorns and hot dogs, the families, friends, community groups, students, co-workers and more who help raise essential funds to keep our services free of charge!

Thank you for volunteering to do something truly onesie-ful and making a real difference πŸ’›

(If you'd love to do something onesie-ful this year too, registrations for Onesie street collectors will open soon - wearing a onesie is completely optional!)

Today we honour the memory of ambulance officer Sydney Barlow who tragically lost his life on Sunday 14 June 1964, while trying to save two boys trapped in a tunnel in Khandallah.

The tragedy touched the hearts of Wellingtonians and an appeal was launched to fund a memorial ambulance in Sydney's name.

Thanks to the generous support of the community and local businesses, Β£3,407 was quickly raised.

The Sydney Barlow memorial ambulance became a reality and Wellington continued to remember Syd and his incredible act of bravery - as we do today.

A huge thank you to the Ulysses Club Wellington for their incredible support.🏍️

Since 2001, the club's annual ANZAC Day motorcycle ride has raised funds for Wellington Free Ambulance, with riders finishing at one of our ambulance stations each year. Over the past 25 years, they've donated more than $47,000, helping us provide free of charge emergency ambulance services and community health support across Greater Wellington and Wairarapa.

Thank you for your ongoing generosity. πŸ’š

Teamwork makes the (chances of surviving a sudden cardiac arrest) dream work πŸ˜‰

We recently installed the latest AED (automated external defibrillator) in Carterton at The Royal Oak. Highly visible, it's available 24/7 to provide potentially lifesaving support to anyone experiencing a sudden cardiac arrest (when the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating normally).

This AED was realised through the Lions Club of Carterton, NZ, Braiden International, Sargent Motorcycles, ETBS Buildlink and the Royal Oak Hotel. Thanks to the ongoing support of Cornerstone Partner Julie Nevett and The Lloyd Morrison Foundation, we install and maintain community-access AEDs like this, free of charge.
