Strengthening UK–New Zealand partnerships 🇳🇿🇬🇧

Last week in Tekapo, our Defence section hosted a VIP day during Exercise Pacific Kukri, offering a firsthand look at live firing and joint training. Pacific Kukri, held every two years, brings together partners to build relationships and shared capability. This year featured the British Army’s Royal Gurkha Rifles, highlighting over 200 years of proud service.

Set against Tekapo’s stunning landscape, the day showcased the enduring value of training together and deepening UK–NZ collaboration. Thank you to NZ Chief of Army Major General Rose King and Hon. Damien O’Connor for joining us.

It was a pleasure to have UK Minister for the Indo-Pacific, Seema Malhotra, visit New Zealand last week.

The UK and New Zealand share a long-standing partnership built on shared values, and this visit provided an important and timely opportunity to deepen cooperation across defence, trade, and our approach to global stability. 🇬🇧🇳🇿

Through engagements with ministers, meetings with UK businesses operating in New Zealand, an event celebrating women in leadership, and attendance at the Wellington Anzac Day service, the visit demonstrated the UK's ongoing commitment to our shared security and prosperity.

Across New Plymouth, Christchurch, Wellington, Kerikeri, Carterton and Lower Hutt, we came together to remember and honour the New Zealand and Australian soldiers who landed at Gallipoli 111 years ago.

Today, the UK stands alongside them and all those who serve in remembrance.

Our representatives marked the occasion at commemorations right across the country, reflecting the shared significance of this day.
