Auckland, 11 June 2026 – H.E. Ambassador Idelta Maria Rodrigues, accompanied by the Honorary Consul of Timor-Leste in New Zealand, Mr Dave Ananth, attended the signing ceremony for the Defence Cooperation Arrangement held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Auckland.

A significant milestone in the defence relationship between Timor-Leste and New Zealand was marked through the virtual signing of a bilateral Defence Cooperation Arrangement between the two countries. The key priorities of the cooperation particularly in the areas of ongoing cooperation, including training, education and capacity building activities, deepening the bilateral relationship, cooperation on humanitarian aid and disaster relief and maritime security, and exchange of expertise in a number of areas.

The Arrangement was signed by New Zealand Defence Minister, Hon. Chris Penk and Timor-Leste Minister of Defence, Rear Admiral Donaciano do Rosário da Costa Gomes, during a virtual meeting.

H.E. Ambassador Idelta Maria Rodrigues attended the ceremony in New Zealand as witness representing the Timor-Leste side, while H.E. Ambassador Helen Tunnah attended in Dili as witness representing the New Zealand side.

During the signing ceremony, both Ministers highlighted the strong partnership and longstanding cooperation between Timor-Leste and New Zealand.

Dili, 03 June 2026 - Her Excellency Ambassador Idelta Maria Rodrigues accompanied the Toroa Delegation Group alongside with Mr. Dave Ananth, Head of Global Business Development, Mr. Ryan Johnson-Hunt, CEO of Toroa Group and Mr. Aaron Wilson, Founder of Akau Capital paid a courtesy meeting with the Chambers of Commerce and Industry Timor-Leste (CCI-TL).

A productive meeting was held with the CCI-TL, who warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed her appreciation for the visit. The discussion also covered on the proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Timor-Leste (CCI-TL) and the Auckland Business Chamber.

Although the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was not signed during this visit, both the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Timor-Leste (CCI-TL) and the Auckland Business Chamber agreed to keep the opportunity open for future signing and continued collaboration.

The meeting concluded with the exchange of commemorative gifts and a group photo to mark the occasion and celebrate the growing partnership.

Our discussion focused on Community-Based Pre-School programmes in rural and remote communities, supported by UNICEF and the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Timor-Leste continues to face significant challenges in early childhood education, particularly accessibility and foundational learning. Strengthening literacy, numeracy, and early learning opportunities will play an important role in the country’s long-term development.

Mrs. Idelta Rodrigues, attended the National Recognition Award Ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Dili, where the President of Timor-Leste, H.E. Mr. José Ramos-Horta, presented awards to two New Zealanders for their valuable service and support to Timor-Leste during the important period of 1999. The award was presented to (Ret.) Brigadier General Mr Neville Reilly, ONZM, NZGS, and (Ret.) Police Inspector Mr Raymond Sutton, ONZM, in recognition of their dedication and support during a difficult time.

The ceremony was also attended by the New Zealand Ambassador to Timor-Leste, H.E. Mrs. Helen Tunnah, showing the close friendship between Timor-Leste and New Zealand.

The following day, on 20 May, Ambassador Idelta attended the commemoration of the 24th Anniversary of the Restoration of Independence of Timor-Leste, held at Tasi-Tolu Square in Dili. The celebration marked 24 years of restored independence, a meaningful moment to reflect on the country’s journey and celebrate the strength, unity, and resilience of the Timorese people.

Later in the afternoon, Ambassador Idelta continued her engagements by attending the groundbreaking ceremony of the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Dili, held at the former Port of Dili. The event was also attended by (Ret.) Brigadier General Mr Neville Reilly, ONZM, NZGS, and (Ret.)
