πŸ€’ FLU AWARENESS – KNOW THE EARLY SYMPTOMS

The flu often comes on quickly and can leave you feeling much worse than a common cold. Knowing the early warning signs can help you take action sooner.

⚠️ Watch for:
🌑️ Sudden high fever (38°C or higher)
πŸ₯Ά Chills and severe body aches
😷 Dry cough and sore throat
😴 Extreme tiredness and weakness
πŸ€• Headache and loss of appetite
🀒 Nausea (especially in children)

If you notice two or more of these symptoms, it's a good idea to rest, stay hydrated, and monitor how you're feeling.

Looking after yourself early can help reduce the spread of illness and support a faster recovery.

🦠 FLU AWARENESS – PROTECT YOUR FAMILY 🏑

When someone in your household is unwell, taking a few simple steps can help prevent the flu from spreading to the rest of your whānau.

βœ… Keep the sick person in a separate room if possible
βœ… Wear a mask when caring for them
βœ… Wash your hands regularly with soap for at least 20 seconds
βœ… Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as doorknobs, phones, and benches
βœ… Use separate utensils, towels, and bedding
βœ… Open windows to improve airflow and bring in fresh air

A little extra care today can help keep your family healthy tomorrow. πŸ’™

Forget the fad diets. Forget trying to look like someone on your social media feed. πŸ™…β€β™€οΈ

Real health isn't about dropping a dress size in 30 days β€” it's about feeling good in your body for the next 30 years.

Small changes stick. Big overhauls don't.

Here are a few easy swaps to start with:
πŸ₯€ Swap one sugary drink a day for water or herbal tea
🍽️ Add one extra vegetable to whatever you're already cooking
πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ Walk somewhere you'd normally drive β€” even once a week
πŸ›’ Shop the edges of the supermarket β€” that's where the real food lives
😴 Treat sleep like nutrition β€” your body repairs itself while you rest
πŸ§‚ Ease up on the salt shaker and ultra-processed snacks gradually β€” your tastebuds actually adjust

None of these are dramatic. That's the point.

You don't need to eat like an influencer or follow a plan that costs $80/month. You just need to make slightly better choices, slightly more often.

That's a healthy lifestyle. And it's yours to build β€” at your own pace, on your own terms. πŸ’š

We need to talk about something that surprises a lot of people. πŸ’¬

Stroke is not just something that happens to older people.

Christian was 18 years old β€” in the middle of a rugby league game β€” when he had a stroke.
Candra was a young mum going about her everyday life.
Preston was young, active, and had no warning.

Stroke can happen to anyone, at any age. And that's exactly why every single one of us needs to know the signs.

F β€” Face drooping
A β€” Arm weakness
S β€” Speech difficulties
T β€” Take action. Call 111.

Know it. Share it. Talk about it with the people you love β€” whatever their age.

Busy mums, working women, caregivers β€” this one's for you. Movement doesn't have to be perfect to be powerful.

Try one of these today:
βœ… Stretch while the kettle boils
βœ… Walk around the block at lunch
βœ… Dance in the kitchen (yes, that counts)

Drop a πŸ’ͺ in the comments if you're committing to your 10 minutes today.

Here's something worth knowing this May. πŸ‘‡

High blood pressure is the number one modifiable risk factor for stroke in New Zealand.

And the tricky thing? You can't feel it. There are no obvious symptoms. Many people live with high blood pressure for years without knowing β€” until something serious happens.

The good news? Checking your blood pressure is quick, simple, and free.

Stroke Aotearoa New Zealand offer free blood pressure checks in communities across the country. If you haven't had yours checked recently, this May is the perfect time.

Take 10 minutes. It could be the most important thing you do this month. πŸ’›

πŸ‘‰ Most Pacific Health providers can support.

Also some Pharmacies offer Blood Pressure checks for a small fee.

May is Women's Health Month and mental wellbeing is just as important as physical health.

Women carry a lot β€” and it's okay to put some of that down.

Here are 3 science-backed ways to support your mental health this week:
πŸŒ™ Prioritise sleep β€” even one extra hour makes a difference
πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ Try 5 minutes of deep breathing or quiet time daily
πŸ“΅ Set a phone-free window before bed

Remember, you matter. Your wellbeing matters!!
Take care of yourself.

Your health check-in isn't just for when something's wrong. It's how you stay ahead of it. πŸ’š

Two of the most important things every woman can do for her health β€” and two of the most commonly put off:

- Cervical screening. A simple test that detects early cell changes before they become cancer. Takes minutes. Could save your life. Yet so many women delay it out of embarrassment, fear, or just being too busy. You're not alone in that β€” but don't let it wait.

- Breast screening. Know your body. Check monthly. Notice what's normal for you so you'll know when something isn't. Mammograms from 40 onwards add another layer of protection. Early detection is the single biggest factor in successful treatment.

Here's the truth about both: caught early, these are among the most treatable conditions women face. Caught late, the story changes.

You don't have to be sick to see a doctor. You just have to be someone who values herself enough to show up.

Book your well-woman visit today. Talk to your doctor about cervical and breast screening β€” where you're at, what's recommended for your age, and what to do next.

You deserve to feel your best. πŸ’ For more information visit: https://www.healthnz.govt.nz/health-topics/keeping-healthy/cancer-screening

4 letters. 4 signs. And the knowledge that could save someone's life. 🧠

This May for Stroke Awareness Month, we want every New Zealander to know F.A.S.T.:

πŸ”΄ F β€” Face drooping. Is one side of their face drooping or numb? Ask them to smile. Is it uneven?
πŸ”΄ A β€” Arm weakness. Can they raise both arms? Does one drift downward?
πŸ”΄ S β€” Speech difficulties. Is their speech slurred or hard to understand?
πŸ”΄ T β€” Take action. Call 111 immediately. Don't wait. Don't second-guess.

If you see even ONE of these signs or in yourself or someone else, act now. Every minute matters when it comes to stroke.
Share this post with your whānau and friends. You never know whose life it might save. πŸ’›
