The Year 13 Outdoor Learning class recently had the opportunity to develop their snowboarding skills at Snowplanet. The purpose of the trip was to build students' confidence and competence on the snow while demonstrating safe practices through effective risk management. Students were also encouraged to apply the concept of kaitiakitanga by showing respect for others, the environment, and the facilities throughout the day. There were plenty of wipeouts, tumbles, and laughs along the way, but most importantly, students showed resilience, determination, and a willingness to challenge themselves while learning new skills. Another one for the books. Ka pai, whānau – great work!

DUKE OF EDINBURGH HILLARY AWARDS- GOLD
RECIPIENT REFLECTIONS: EILIS RODEN
I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of my Duke of Ed journey, from the challenging hikes to the meaningful friendships I formed along the way. I also found my volunteer hours especially rewarding, as they allowed me to give back while developing new skills. My favourite part of the entire experience was completing my Gold Award with Spirit of Adventure. It was an incredibly fun and fulfilling way to conclude the journey and it felt especially rewarding after all the time, effort and dedication I had put into achieving it.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH HILLARY AWARDS- GOLD
RECIPIENT REFLECTIONS: BROOKE JOHNSTONE
One of my greatest memories from my Duke of Ed journey is on my Gold Residential, when we were out on the water in double kayaks in 30 knot winds and facing capsizing. This experience has truly shown me how far I have come through the Award, as if I was presented with the same situation during my Bronze I would not have had the grit, determination and mental toughness to keep fighting and to complete that leg of the Journey. If I had to choose the highlights from my entire Award experience it would be the friends that I have made along the way, as well as the valuable life skills that it has taught me, and the appreciation for the outdoors that I have gained.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH HILLARY AWARDS- GOLD
RECIPIENT REFLECTIONS: AMBER HYLAND
My Duke of Ed has been a highly rewarding and meaningful experience that has helped me grow both personally and socially. During my Gold journey I had the opportunity to meet new people, build strong connections and develop new skills that pushed me outside of my comfort zone. I learned how important it is to manage my time effectively while balancing school, sports and other commitments, which required discipline and consistency.

Being part of a group also taught me how to cooperate with others, communicate clearly and support one another, even in challenging situations. I really enjoyed exploring more of New Zealand's outdoors as it encouraged me to try new things and appreciate experiences I may not have otherwise had. Logging my activities, especially through sports and other commitments, gave me a strong sense of achievement and allowed me to reflect on how much I had grown over time. Overall, the Award has helped me become more independent, confident and motivated, and it has inspired me to continue challenging myself and embracing new opportunities in the future.

2027 ENROLMENT INFORMATION
Kia ora e te whānau, hello everyone

Welcome to the first part of your child’s journey with us at Waiuku College. We are very excited and looking forward to our 2027 cohort and the awesome year ahead. The population growth we see in our community has made it necessary to bring our enrolment timeline forward. This earlier timeline ensures that we can be fully prepared for students to arrive in 2027.

Waiuku College is first and foremost an academic institution where we see expectation, effort and excellence as non-negotiable from our students. Waiuku College also offers significant opportunities in culture, leadership, arts, service and sports. All students are expected to be fully involved in the life of our school. We expect all students to embrace our school values of whanaungatanga (family), whakaute (respect, appreciation), korowai manaaki (caring, support) and manawanui (resilience and determination) from the moment they join us, to the day they depart.

Additional information:
