UPDATE: Stage 2 - MULTISPORTS (Taha Tinana)
Unfortunately, we are not able to utilize the Wairoa District Council funding, that they recieved for our project to upgrade our Tennis Courts.
In the last hui, thier korero was, they are only willing to put money into the court, if the Ruapani Ki Waikaremoana Trust (Lake Whakamarino Lodge) are willing to sign a lease agreement with the council - this is due to the Tennis Courts not being on Council managed reserves, they also told us to remember what the project is about.... the tamariki & mokopuna 🤨. We will continue to have korero with the Council for Stages 3 & 4.

To ensure our project stays community led and Waikaremoana focussed, we have engaged with Lake Whakamarino Lodge Trust to formally come under thier business entity to help us manage project funds and apply for funding.
The Lodge Operations team has now adopted and will be managing the development of the courts.

Meanwhile over the weekend we caught these awesome contractors, waterblasting & cleaning the courts. They are staying at The Lodge. They said, they are wanting to give back to this community, as they are being well looked after by the locals, and see lots of kids playing all around the Lodge 🙏🏽🥰.
We appreciate you guys so much, Kulu & team from SRG.

UPDATE: Stage 2 - MULTISPORTS (Taha Tinana)
Wairoa District Council were successful in securing $280,000 from the Thriving Communities fund on behalf of our project.
We have initiated our own professionals, Quality Roading and Services to undertake this mahi.
We can't wait to see the tamariki & mokopuna making their own memories on the upgraded 'Multisport Court'

🌟 Nga Roopu Tautoko Tuatoru
From the very beginning, locally owned business, 'Quality Roading and Services', were one of the first to voice their support for this project.
With a "for locals, by locals" attitude, this company definitely contributes a high level input, back into the entire Wairoa region, and are currently the main income provider for most of our whanau, here in Waikaremoana.
Their tremendous support for the economic sustenance and upskilling of our whanau is substantial, spilling out benefits for our whole community.
We look forward to celebrating the huge mahi that is expected to take place throughout this development, which will likely be completed by our very own.

Kia ora e te whanau, pehea koutou?
After another year of covid battles and unsure times, our hāpori here in Waikaremoana has been very busy with lots of important priorities.
This project took a back seat, to help support those. We are now ready to get our paddles out again.
We are calling for anyone who may be interested in joining our Tau mai ki Tuai Working group. Pm or īmera mai if you are keen. [email protected]

🎥 Video's taken today, (after few days of heavy rain) showing water flow and flooding water levels in Stage One & Four.
🔹 ️Stage One will allow us to learn new innovative ways to help purify the water input which currently nourishes kai and flows into Stage Four.
🔹️ Stage Four will allow us to utilize the current water flow from Stage One and reuse in a new water play area for nga pēpi. __________________________________

Here, we focus on learning how the stages designs need to compliment, not impact, the existing natural features; ngahere, natural waterflow and land contour.
