Ceramic artworks by John Parker on display in the New Vision Gallery at the Aigantighe Art Gallery.
Exhibited in Aigantighe House, the New Vision Gallery exhibition shows artworks that are all part of the Aigantighe Art Gallery’s permanent collection. The New Vision Gallery exhibition celebrates the support given to New Zealand artists by the early dealer gallery in Auckland. One of the artists who was represented by New Vision Gallery was the New Zealand ceramic artist John Parker, and there are 5 ceramic artworks by Parker currently on display.
John Parker is a ceramicist whose work combines functional craftsmanship with expressive form. Trained in New Zealand and influenced by both European and local traditions, Parker explores the tactile qualities of clay, experimenting with surface texture, glaze, and scale.
His practice ranges from domestic wares to sculptural pieces, reflecting a deep engagement with material and the process of making.
With a strong exhibition history, including an expansive 2002 survey exhibition at City Gallery Wellington, and early exhibitions at New Vision Gallery, Parker has contributed to the development of modern ceramics in Aotearoa, mentoring younger artists and demonstrating how craft and art can intersect.
His work continues to resonate in collections across New Zealand, offering insight into
the possibilities of clay as both a practical and expressive medium.
The New Vision Gallery exhibition is on display at the Aigantighe Art Gallery until 9 August 2026.
