Today, we proudly celebrate an extraordinary achievement by our CEO, Janice Kuka, who has been appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours for her outstanding services to Māori health.

Whaea Janice has been a tireless champion for whānau, a visionary leader in Māori health, and a passionate advocate for equity and self-determination in healthcare. Through her commitment, courage, and compassion, she has helped shape stronger, healthier futures for countless whānau and communities.

Her leadership continues to inspire those around her, and her impact reaches far beyond the organisations and communities she serves. This recognition reflects not only her remarkable achievements, but also the profound difference she has made in the lives of so many people over the past four decades.

This honour is a fitting recognition of more than 40 years of unwavering dedication, leadership, and service to improving the health and wellbeing of Māori communities across the Bay of Plenty and throughout Aotearoa.

We want to hear your views!
If you have a GP appointment over the next few weeks, you may receive an email or text message inviting you to take part in a patient experience survey about your recent experience at your GP practice.
By taking part in the survey, you would be helping to improve the care you and your whānau receive, as well as care and access to health services in local communities across Aotearoa.
Taking part in the survey is voluntary and anonymous.
If you want to participate, please ensure the contact details your practice has for you are up to date.
