Stratford District Council - Te Kaunihera ā Rohe o Whakaahurangi Stratford District Council's official page. Stratford district is one of New Zealand’s smallest local authority areas.

Our mission at Stratford District Council is to “Serve the district and its communities through advocacy, promotion, services, facilities and positive leadership.”

Council looks after a wide range of the district's services such as animal control, planning and resource consents, water services, rubbish and recycling, roads and transport, parking and rates. In addition it helps manage funding and

grants for the community and organises family orientated events for the district's residents to enjoy. The district is a great place to live, work and play with affordable real estate, good schools and easy access to the wider Taranaki region.

Paying your dog registration fees, property rates or another bill?
You can now do it online at my.Stratford.govt.nz

This is a new feature for our website, which also includes online forms for our animal control services, such as registering a dog for the first time and notifying a transfer of animal ownership.

Our plan is to add more online forms for council services over the next year.

You can also create an account to manage your services easily, but it’s optional.

Take a look online and let us know what you think.

Your phones will be making a loud noise this eve. 📢

One evening a year, phones across New Zealand collectively lose their indoor voices. Tonight is that evening.

Consider this your warning about the warning.

Between 6pm and 7pm tonight, phones across New Zealand will receive the annual Emergency Mobile Alert test.

Remember:
❗ If you have a hidden phone for your personal safety, or the sound of the alert affects your physical or mental health in any way, turn off your devices during this time, or put them in flight mode.
👉📱 Press the volume button on the side of your phone to mute the noise and leave the message up.

Help shape the future of your local government.

A community survey is now open and running through to 12 July 2026.

This survey follows Council’s decision at the end of May to participate in the Government’s Head Start pathway, as part of their Simplifying Local Government reform.

Change is coming to how local government works, and the status quo is not an option.

Now is the time for you, our Stratford community, to speak up and help shape the direction of any future proposal.

Mayor Neil Volzke and Daniel our Health and Safety/Civil Defence Advisor were invited to attend Pembroke School's Inspiring the Future event. Mayor Neil and Daniel got to participate in a Q&A session where the students asked the panel of guests questions to try and guess their jobs. They quickly guessed the Mayor, wonder what gave it away? But it was a different story for Daniel, who walked away considering a new career as an undertaker! 👀

This was a great opportunity to show students a variety of different jobs that they may have never heard of, and for Daniel to share some tips on being prepared in an emergency.

A huge thank you to Pembroke School for the invitation.
