Love this time of the year! Drying herbs and then creating mixes of relaxing, rejuvenating teas is the ultimate winter’s day activity.

At 739m asl, the village is 439m above FairView Farm - lavender farm, historic homestead and gardens, with peaks up to 1500m towering above the valley. Last night we celebrated the first day of winter with a delicious home cooked dinner, outdoors on the verandah. Mild weather is worth celebrating, even if it does hint at drought conditions to come!

It’s perfect weather to harvest calendula flowers. We use calendula oil and dried flowers in some of our lavender products. It’s a soothing, healing plant, with anti inflammatory properties.

Once the flowers are dry, I’ll blend with lavender and other flowers to make look good, feel great, rejuvenating herbal teas, amongst other things 🍃💜🧽🧴🫖🥗💜🍃

Yesterday we had some tough news. Feeling shocked, I thought a moment in the cocoon of the billiard room, with its beautiful ‘green’ views, might help. The effect was instant. Heart rate dropped. Breathing returned to normal. I felt calm. Nature nurtures.

The gentle fragrance of a field of lavender, bellbirds singing happily, soft light and autumn colours, tree planting, garden planning and gentle wanders around the farm brighten my day.

Escape the city and join us for a weekend on the farm. https://fairviewfarm.org.nz/collections/accommodation.

Autumn colour in the homestead garden. I love this season for its gentle slowdown, its shortening days, its sense of permission to let go.

It’s time when we gather in fruit and vegetables from the garden, family and friends around the table, and enjoy time in front of the fire. It’s also the time when I turn to our lavender Bath Oil (we have the best, enormously long, original, claw foot bath) a light touch of lavender Massage Oil, and a couple of squirts of lavender Pillow Spray for extra soothing, relaxing comfort.

If you’d like to experience FairView’s legendary hospitality, join us! The homestay guest rooms are busy, but there are still some dates available if you fancy a relaxing reset. Bring your bestie. Bring just yourself. Bring the kids. Whatever the reason we can cater for your needs, with two queen bed rooms and one room with two king singles. Note: the old homestead has one bathroom, so we live as generations before us lived, comfortably, slowly, together.
