Its 1900 and the SS Taupo is wrecked on the Greymouth bar. She broke her mooring at the Greymouth Wharf and did the drift down river where she ended up ashore and battered by waves. A great photo, one that many have copies of, by James Ring who although a potrait painter was known for his photo documentation of the West Coast.

While under a revamp with Coronation Hall we came across the name of the original installer of the windows written on a piece of timber in the window sash. Now we also have a photo of the company as well, based in Hokitika. How wonderful to imagine one of the gentleman in the photo may have actually written the name on our window frame!

Join us on Monday 6th July or Thursday 16th July for a full day of smashing, learning, discovering, and exploring all things fossils, rocks and minerals!

Kids will get hands-on with exciting activities, uncover hidden treasures, learn about the world beneath our feet, and take part in some fossil-themed fun alongside members of the West Coast Gem & Mineral Club.
