📢 Reminder: Teacher Only Day Tomorrow

😊 Just a friendly reminder that school is closed tomorrow for our Teacher Only Day.

Our team will be spending the day continuing to learn about the Refreshed Curriculum and getting familiar with new assessment tools that will help support our tamariki's learning.

While the classrooms will be quiet for the day, our staff will be hard at work behind the scenes!

We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday for a normal school day.

Thanks for your support, and enjoy the weekend! 🌞

🚒🔥 Don’t panic! Nothing is on fire… except the learning at Sunset School! 🔥🚒
Over the past few weeks, Rooms 5, 8, 10, and 11 have been taking part in the Firewise Programme, learning important fire safety skills and how to keep themselves and their whānau safe.

Today, we were lucky to welcome the team from Rotorua Fire Station to Sunset School. They arrived with a fire truck and support ute, giving our tamariki the opportunity to get up close and explore the vehicles, equipment, and gear used by our local firefighters every day.

The students loved asking questions, climbing aboard the truck, and learning more about the important role Fire and Emergency New Zealand plays in our community.

A huge thank you to the Rotorua Fire Station crew for taking the time to visit and inspire our students. What an awesome hands-on learning experience!

Our tamariki have been absolutely loving their time at RotoVegas Boxing Gym, building confidence, skills, fitness, and heaps of resilience along the way.

Big mihi to our coaches for an incredible experience each week — the kids are thriving!
Room 1 wraps up their sessions at the end of this term, and then it’s Room 3’s turn to step into the ring and enjoy this amazing opportunity next! 🔥💪

🏃Central Cluster Cross Country🏃‍♀️

Yesterday we had 12 tamariki represent Sunset Primary at the cross country competition. They all did their absolute best effort on the run and showed some great resiliency battling it out with so many other schools.

I was especially proud seeing how they encouraged each other in the final part of the course. Running alongside and cheering their school mates on till the very end.

Our highest placed students were Lomu and Lilly both placing 14th in the respective age group. Well done to everyone who showed up and gave it their all!

Cross Country Students:
Wiremu, Chorus, Te Aweawe, Lilly, Trevia, Maryrose, Lomu, Hutarangi, Ezekiel, Allan, Tairongo and Boston.

🌟A special mention to Maryrose who showed the most improvement from our practices to race day and to Boston who not only did a further distance but also ran against kids that were in intermediate already (the age groups are based off their age in Dec 2025). 🌟

🌅 Morena whānau and friends,

We are so excited to be launching our new Sunset Primary School uniform — a uniform that reflects who we are and celebrates the identity of our amazing tamariki.

Thanks to the incredible support of Rotorua Trust, we are well on our way, but we still need a little help to reach our goal and ensure every child receives a full uniform set at no cost to their whānau.

If you know of any businesses, organisations, trusts, or individuals who may be able to support this kaupapa, please share our Givealittle page with them. We are hoping to connect with supporters who are in a position to help our tamariki thrive.

Every contribution will help our children walk through the school gates feeling proud, included, and ready to learn.

Thank you for helping us spread the word ❤️

Support 166 amazing tamariki by helping provide school uniforms that build pride, belonging, and attendance.

📢 Whānau Hui – Keeping Ourselves Safe Programme

Kia ora whānau,

Tomorrow at 2:00pm we will be hosting a Whānau Hui with Constable Viv to introduce the Keeping Ourselves Safe programme that will be taught at Sunset Primary early in Term 3.

This is a great opportunity for parents, caregivers, grandparents, and whānau members to learn more about the programme, understand what will be covered, and ask any questions you may have before it begins.

📅 When: Tomorrow, 2:00pm – approximately 3:00pm (in time for student pick-up)
📍 Where: Staffroom (if we have a large turnout, we will move to the school hall)

We strongly encourage as many whānau members as possible to attend. The Keeping Ourselves Safe programme is an important part of helping our tamariki build the knowledge and confidence to keep themselves safe, and we want everyone to have the opportunity to fully understand the programme and discuss it with Constable Viv.

We look forward to seeing you there!

⚽️ Sunset Storm ⚽️

Braving the cold morning with frost still on the ground, Sunset Storm took on the Hurricanes.

We went down a goal early but quickly scored back. The game went back and forth in the first half. With half time ending 4-2 to us. We woke up in the second half and started passing the ball around which led to more goal scoring opportunities. Vinny made some crucial saves to keep momentum on our side. Final score 7-2.

Goal scores: Arnav, Travis, Lomu, and Boston.

Player of the day: Te Rangimarie. She always has a great attitude and gives it her all every game. Today she played striker and ran her heart out. She created some great chances and nearly scored. Each week she’s getting better and better. Well done!
