🌍 International Day of Play! 🎉

The United Nations has designated June 11th to celebrate a fundamental truth: play is a child’s right. Under Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, play sits right alongside the right to education and safety. It’s not just a "nice-to-have”!
Our tamariki were challenged to design a mascot to support the All Whites at the FIFA World Cup.⚽️🇳🇿 It brought wonderful opportunities for curiosity and collaboration. We were incredibly lucky to have Dr. Sarah Aiono from Longworth Education visit our learning environments to celebrate all the fantastic, teaching and learning she saw happening across our school! 🤝🌟
Go the All Whites! 🤍

A massive congratulations to our amazing runners who represented Otonga Primary School at the CBOP Cross Country at Springfield Golf Course today!

It was a tough course, but our students absolutely gave it their all. They showed incredible perseverance and manawanui pushing through every single hill and finishing with big smiles.

We are so incredibly proud of how you represented our school, team! 🌟

A huge thank you to all the whānau who came out to cheer, support, and help on the day. Your energy made all the difference! 👏

In a vibrant and dynamic performance, our talented Rm9️⃣& 🔟 tamariki brought history to life to commemorate the 140th anniversary of the 1886 Mount Tarawera eruption 🌋The storytellers shared a haunting portrayal of the legendary 8th Wonder of the World - the Pink and White Terraces 💟, before transitioning into a high-energy reenactment of the shifting earth, roaring fires 🔥and erupting ash clouds. ☁️ It was a magical experience topped off by our hosts Jonny and Sophie using their knowledge of te reo Māori to complete the whole story of Tarawera.

We also celebrated our Principal's Awards, Library 📚and Techie 🖥️ Leaders, House winners and Ice Cream Friday recipients. 🍦Not to mention, the Secret Spy award went to Rm16 presented by Zorro. 🕵️ Congratulations to all our achievers - Whaia te iti kahurangi. 🎉

👑♟️ CHESS CHAMPIONS IN THE MAKING! ♟️👑

A massive shoutout to our fantastic school chess team who competed at the tournament yesterday!👍🏻

We had 4 players - Joshya Banker, Matthew Wu, Archer Simpson and Ayden Frickey who were all nominated for the New Zealand Chess Nationals played later in the year.

Joshya Banker was overall winner for the Tournament.

An excellence for Noah Beltran in the Rookies Division.

For a lot of our players, this was their very first time competing on the big stage. Despite being a young and relatively inexperienced team, they played with incredible focus, strategy, and sportsmanship. They did absolutely exceptionally well against some tough competition! 💙

💥SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY 2026!🏃‍♂️💨

What a fantastic day down at the tracks! Our runners brought incredible energy and grit to the course. 👟 From our littlest runners giving it their all to our older students blazing a trail, we are so proud of everyone's effort! 🏆❤️
We are so lucky to have Jackson Park Reserve bordering the school to run through. 🌲
A massive thank you to all the wonderful parents, whānau, and staff who came out to cheer them on and help marshal! 📣🙌

30kph Safer Speeds Around Schools

From June, the speed limit outside our school will drop to 30km/h during busy drop-off and pick-up times (8:00–9:00am and 2:45–3:45pm).
At other times, the normal speed limit will apply. There will be a mix of electronic and static signs. As soon as the signs are installed, the lower speed limit can be enforced, so please keep an eye out.
Take a look at the map to see how your usual route might change. For more information and FAQs, visit: rlc.net.nz/safespeeds
Thanks for helping keep our tamariki safe.
