Happy National Volunteer Week to all the amazing volunteers of Friends of Waiuta!
Your dedication, hard work, and passion have helped preserve the rich history and heritage of the historic town of Waiuta. Through countless volunteer hours, you have maintained historic sites, restored buildings such as Gill's Cottage, supported the Waiuta Lodge, helped create interpretation panels, published books and resources, and worked alongside the Department of Conservation to keep Waiuta's unique story alive for future generations. You have also helped share Waiuta's story with a wider audience through the production of the documentaries Whispers of Gold and Jos – The Forgotten Photographer Who Saved a Town, ensuring the history, people, and legacy of Waiuta are preserved and celebrated for generations to come.
Because of your efforts, visitors from New Zealand and around the world can experience the fascinating history of one of the West Coast's most significant gold-mining communities. Your commitment to conserving Waiuta's heritage, researching and sharing its stories, promoting the township as a place of education and recreation, and bringing its stories to life through film is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for everything you do. Waiuta's past remains alive today because of your volunteer spirit, generosity, and dedication.
Happy National Volunteer Week! 👏⛏️🏆💛
