Teamwork makes the dream work! 🔥 Our crew teamed up with the awesome volunteers from Raglan Fire and Emergency last night.

We got hands-on with dry powder and CO2 extinguishers, sharpening our skills to keep our community safe on and off the water.

It was an incredibly informative session and an awesome reminder of the strength of our local emergency volunteer network. Huge thanks to our Raglan FENZ for sharing their expertise! 🙌🚒⚓️

Last night, on one of the coldest evenings of the year so far, our Rescue Watercraft (RWC) crew were out training with a new piece of kit we’re trialling, the inflatable rescue tube.

A rescue tube is a lightweight, inflatable device designed to provide immediate flotation in the water. We train to use it to support unconscious patients during swim rescues, assist conscious patients to stay afloat, and provide extra buoyancy when it’s needed most. Simple, effective, and a valuable addition to our toolkit.

Massive credit to the crew for getting out there on a cold, dark night and putting in the work.

Quick-Thinking Informant Helps Save Surfer at Ngarunui Beach

At 20:05 last night, Raglan Volunteer Coastguard were tasked to reports of a swimmer in difficulty off the Surf Lifesaving Club at Ngarunui Beach.

Rylock Waikato 1 and 2 (RWC) responded immediately and were on scene by 20:15. With fading light and a moderate swell still running, both rescue watercraft began searching south along the beach.

Shortly after commencing the search, the crew aboard Rylock Waikato 2 located a surfer in distress approximately 200 metres offshore and quickly brought them safely aboard. The individual was showing signs of hypothermia and was promptly transported back to shore, where they were handed into the care of awaiting Hato Hone St John paramedics. Both rescue watercraft then navigated safely back to base in darkness, shutting down at 20:24.

A huge thank you goes to the member of the public who first spotted the swimmer/surfer and raised the alarm. Without their quick actions, it is quite possible the individual may not have been located in time.

This successful outcome is a huge credit to the dedication and training of our volunteer crews, whose swift response and professionalism resulted in a life being saved tonight.

This incident also serves as an important reminder to take care when entering the water, particularly later in the evening. Avoid swimming alone where possible, and always let someone know your plans before heading out, including where you are going and when you expect to return.

How was your Tuesday? Ours went a little like this ⬇️

Several of our volunteers gave up their Tuesday morning this week to train alongside our valued partners, Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter .

These joint training scenarios are invaluable for both agencies and help ensure that when it comes to the real thing, we’re prepared to work seamlessly together to get the job done.

This is a partnership, and training programme we’re proud of and look forward to continuing. 🚁🛥️

Raglan Volunteer Coastguard Training Exercise

Tomorrow, (Tuesday 3rd February) Raglan Volunteer Coastguard will be conducting a joint training exercise within the Raglan Harbour alongside the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

This training highlights the strong and valued partnership between our rescue agencies, ensuring we’re well prepared to work together when it matters most.

Training is scheduled to take place on the water between 11:00 and 14:00 hours.

Training is subject to weather and operational requirements

This may be an interesting session to watch, but we’d like to reassure the community that this is planned training only. There is no cause for alarm.
