Very much against the odds, Rosaline Frank was able to forge a career as Nelson's first woman professional photographer, starting at the end of the 19th century. A local photographer Rosalina McCarthy became so captivated with her near namesake's work and achievements that she's written her story in...

A very interesting story that should have us all thinking about how easily our history can disappear.

A massive and irreplaceable archive of historically significant photographs is up for sale on the open market, after a lengthy ordeal abroad that almost saw them destroyed. Dubbed the Fairfax Archives, in 2013 the collection of 1.4 million photographs was sent by Fairfax Media to the United States t...

I thought this story was worth a share for those who don't read STUFF. We have waited for the new library Te Noninga Kumu for so long and now it is delivering so many good events for all ages. We visited the Te Waikoropupu Springs on the weekend and saw the story there as well. Our Australian visitor was very impressed with both and thought the panels and the art work and the connecting stories and history is so important for us to know.

Arts festival shows held in Motueka for the first time - in new library where art tells stories alongside books.

Just in case today was the day you had time to do some research.

Just in case today was the day you had time to do some research.

Please be advised that our WWI00 and Early Settlers databases are currently offline.

Both databases use software that is now recognised as obsolete. Running this software puts all the Museum’s data at risk of compromise. After consulting with experts, including those at Te Papa and the Auckland Museum, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily remove the databases from our website while we actively investigate solutions. We would like to reassure you that all the data is safe and archived while we work through this process.

In the meantime, much of the WWI00 data is available online at Auckland Museum’s Online Cenotaph:

The National Library has also permanently archived the WW100 website (which does not include the service database) which can be accessed here:

Information on Early Settlers can be found online at Archives New Zealand:

Last days of the Parades, Progress and Promotions exhibition at the Motueka Museum. Sunday 24th there will definitely be a volunteer from 10am till 2pm. Make her day and fill the museum with your chatter about the great photographs about High Street. See the window displays on The Auckland, Changs, Bucholz and the Barber. Sit under the old fashioned hair dryer and take a selfie. Look at the cobblers tools, the stunning jewellery in the jewellers case, the bookshop, and the camera and electronics display.
Then Tuesday 26th till the Friday and again on Sunday 31st 10-3pm. But in these uncertain times don't leave it till the last minute. The volunteers may be sick and the museum has to close. It's free, although a donation always welcome.

How are you all holding up out there? What with the wet weather and with Covid still lurking it has been a pretty miserable winter. It is nice and warm at the museum so why not come in before the end of July and see the High Street exhibition before it is taken down. The museum will be closed as usual for August for maintenance and refurbishing and doing all those jobs that can't be done while the public are around. So tomorrow Friday 22nd, Sunday 24th and next week Tuesday to Friday are your last chances to see what has been a celebration of Motueka's High Street.
