Very upsetting for the owner, remember your dog(s) need to be under your control at all times, if let off lead even in a dog exercise area.

Kia ora, unfortunately there was a serious dog incident in Bothamley Park on Tuesday 9 December between 8–9pm. A dog was attacked and killed by another dog and we need your help. If you have any information about the incident, please contact our Animal Control team on 📞04 237 5089.

An extract from the Evening Post, Volume XV, Issue 20, 25 January 1877, Page 2. That references North Takapu Road. The track through Bothamley used to be the old road to the farms and is shown on some early maps as North Takapu Road.
Amazing that they were doing maintenance on it in 1877, nearly 160 years ago.
