Over the last two terms, our Year 7–8 students have been researching careers they are interested in pursuing in the future.

As part of this learning, students developed their email writing skills and reached out to local experts in their chosen fields, inviting them to come and share their experiences with us.

This term, our senior students have had the opportunity to hear from a wide range of professionals, including representatives from Geovert, the Police, Kakariki Stables owner and horse riding instructor, a barber, a sports coach, our Principal, a professional athlete, a dentist, business owners and an author.

These conversations have provided valuable insights into the many different pathways available and have helped bring our students' future aspirations to life.

A huge thank you to everyone who generously gave up their time to speak with our students. We are incredibly grateful for your support and for inspiring the next generation.

Today 14 of our Year 4-8 students proudly represented PCS and the South West Zone of Lower Hutt at the Interzone Cross Country.

Although the day started with a bit of rain and some chilly winds, it didn’t stop our students from turning up with big smiles and plenty of determination to do their best.

Every one of our runners gave it their all and represented our school with pride, sportsmanship and perseverance.

A special shout out to Quinn, who placed 12th, Liam, who finished 16th, and Juan, who came 18th in their respective races. What an awesome achievement!

Congratulations to all 14 students - we are so proud of the way you represented PCS! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

The Petone Library has been a special place for Petone Central School students for many years. It’s a place where books have been borrowed and loved, friendships have grown after school, and student learning and artwork have proudly been displayed. 📚✨

Over the past couple of terms, Tūī, Kiwi, and Kōtare classes have enjoyed making the most of having the library still so close to us. The wonderful library staff have welcomed our students with fantastic information sessions, engaging stories, and the opportunity to browse and issue books of their own.

Our students have loved each visit, and we are incredibly grateful to the amazing staff who have made every session such a positive and memorable experience.

We will definitely miss having the Petone Library just 30 seconds down the road and the friendly faces who have always made us feel so welcome. ❤️

This term, Whānau Ahi have been taking part in an exciting music rotation, spending time learning drumming, sasa, and beatboxing. 🎶🥁🎤

It has been awesome to see students stepping outside their comfort zones, building confidence, learning new skills, and expressing themselves through music and rhythm. The energy, creativity, and enthusiasm shown throughout the sessions have been amazing!

A big highlight has been students getting the opportunity to work alongside different teachers across the syndicate, strengthening connections and creating lots of fun learning experiences together. We are so proud of the effort, teamwork, and positivity our tamariki have brought to each rotation.

Whānau Ata recently participated in the Firewise programme, where they learned about fire safety and what to do in the event of a fire. This week, they were lucky to enjoy an educational visit from Alanah, along with a special visit from the team and fire truck from Seaview Fire Station. A huge thank you to Alanah and the Seaview firefighters for taking the time to share their knowledge and experiences with us!

Whānau Tu is taking advantage of the mild weather to get out for some physical activity: namely Rippa Rugby, which teaches us determination, teamwork, and how to handle both victory and defeat. Here are our tamariki in action, today.

Special project for our junior students - a fairy garden! 🧚✨

Our Year 7-8 students have been busy planning, painting, and creating fairy houses, doors, fences, ladders, and even painted rocks (with plenty more still to come!).

Today we installed the garden, and it was instantly met with lots of excitement from our younger students. It was also awesome to see the pride on our senior students’ faces as they shared something they had worked so hard on for others.

Such a fun project that brought out creativity, teamwork, and a little bit of magic around our school! 🌿

On Tuesday, some of our Year 4-6 students represented our school at the interschool cross country event. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

They all ran incredibly well and showed amazing team spirit, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the day. We are so proud of the way they supported each other and gave it their all.

A special shout out to Max, Hunter, Liam and Juan who placed in the top 20 and have qualified to compete again next month at interzone alongside our Year 7&8 students. What an awesome achievement - well done! 👏
