Kiwi Kindness Week

We have had an amazing week celebrating our very own ‘Kiwi Kindness Week,’ filled with activities organised by the Tahatai Student Council. Throughout the week, our Student Councillors acted as ‘Kindness Detectives,’ awarding kindness tickets to children spotted doing kind acts. The Gratitude Wall was a huge success, with queues of tamariki lining up to share what they love about their friends, teachers, and school.

We also enjoyed a tuakana-teina buddy class swap, where our older students created heartfelt cards for their younger buddies, and the younger children made beautiful bookmarks in return. The week featured fun Kindness Quizzes and games on the astroturf led by our Friendship Leaders and Student Councillors. To cap off the celebrations, we enjoyed music at lunchtime while the children wrote kind messages and drew vibrant chalk pictures beside the junior playground.

This was truly a week where our school values were brought to life! Thank you to our Student Council for leading such a meaningful initiative and to every student for contributing to the warm, positive culture that makes Tahatai such a special place to learn.

Keeping the Beat in Room 25! 🥁✨

This term, the students in Room 25 have been diving into the world of rhythm, tempo, and groove with the Beat Station. From mastering tricky patterns to finding their own unique musical flow, it’s been a term packed with high energy, laughter, and plenty of fun.

The absolute highlight of our musical journey was a spectacular, high-octane Beat Jam Session afternoon with a very special guest: Adam, the creator of Beat Station himself! Adam brought an incredible burst of energy to the Junior School, jamming alongside the students and helping them lock in their rhythms like total pros. It was the perfect, unforgettable finale to a fantastic term of making noise and making music.

🌋 Volcanoes in Action in Room 34! 🌋
Room 34 has been exploring the fascinating world of volcanoes—learning how they are formed, what happens beneath the Earth's surface, and how volcanic eruptions occur. The students have loved creating their own volcano models and bringing their learning to life with exciting volcanic eruption experiments. It has been a fantastic hands-on way to investigate the power and wonder of our natural world! 🌎🔥😊

Year 2 Kai Growers
This term, four students from each of our Year 2 classes had the exciting opportunity to work alongside our Senior Student Kai Grower Leaders in the school garden during Thursday lunchtime sessions.

Throughout the programme, students learned about the important role bugs play in our gardens. They discovered the difference between good and bad bugs and enjoyed going on a bug hunt with magnifying glasses to spot a variety of insects living in the garden.

The children also learned how to care for our garden and gained an understanding of how gardens provide food for us to eat. They explored how seeds can be collected, replanted, and grown into new plants and food.

One of the highlights was learning about worms and the important job they do in keeping our soil healthy. Students visited our worm farm, learned how to care for the worms, and discovered that worms produce liquid fertiliser, often called “worm pee”, which helps plants grow. They even had the chance to feed this fertiliser to our garden plants.

Room 30 Goes Wild About Weather: Sun, Science and Stunning Art!

This week, Room 30 continued our exciting Wild About Weather learning by exploring the science behind the Sun and discovering why it is essential for life on Earth. We were amazed to learn that the Sun is a giant ball of hot gases and so enormous that more than one million Earths could fit inside it! Our learning then took us to the desert, where we investigated how cold-blooded lizards depend on the Sun's warmth to help regulate their body temperature. Inspired by this connection, we created stunning desert artworks using dyed backgrounds in warm desert colours and intricate zentangle lizards, which were carefully mounted onto their desert scenes. The finished pieces look fantastic and showcase both our scientific learning and artistic creativity.

Room 24 knows that all emotions are okay. Our emotions are ours and we are allowed to feel them. We are all different and so our emotions are different. Some of these emotions make us feel mixed up, upside down, inside out, silly or a little bit crazy. AND that's OK too.
Our self portraits are inspired by CUBISM art and reflect our feelings and the colours we associate with those feelings. We have been learning to write complex sentences using WHEN. We hope you relate to some of our experiences.

Room 22 has been learning to work together with kindness and respect. We have created ladybug learning goals for the rest of this term after reading a story about a Ladybug who struggled to fly. We enjoyed attending the disco last week, and Edie performed on stage with the band.
