I had the blessing of teaching and sharing my aroha and knowledge to students who didn't speak english as their first language through the Kia ora Cafe workshops I created a few years ago. The students (one of which who is featured in this article and video interview) were part of the very diverse group of students I had the pleasure of connecting with and learning about in terms of their culture, different languages and so many similarities between our indigenous cultures for the first time.

I have only learned of this recent update, please know I am here as Tangata Whenua to support you however I can. x

You can't learn or master your knowledge, skills, and understanding of another language or culture from a boring textbook. 😊

If someone were to visit your home country for the very first time or they set out to learn about your country, your language, and culture with very little to zero knowledge and awareness, think about all the personal guidance, expertise and value you would be able to provide that person. The history, the food, the humor, the music, the traditions, etc

Aotearoa NZ is my home country by ancestry and by birth and my language is Kiwi, a mix of Kiwi English and Maori language.

Providing customized personal guided Kiwi Language Kiwi Culture tour experiences is what I provide for my clients, it's also my passion as a local indigenous Kiwi.

To welcome, to educate, to help newcomers to our country not "just get by" but instead to gain a truly meaningful life experience that equips my clients with tools and skills they need to feel less homesick, less isolated and less like an outsider as they navigate their new lifestyle here in Aotearoa NZ.

this morning!!

I can say being born and raised in Aotearoa NZ all my life I've felt worse and longer earthquakes but in the Manawatu region where I've been mainly based, earthquakes are not that common. Wairarapa, 1855, Napier 1931 and Christchurch 2011 are some of the most devastating earthquakes of our history.

Thank you, Cindy Nuong Nguyen,Cindy Nuong Nguyen for asking, if you want information on what to do in the event of an earthquake check this out:

Due to its location and environment, New Zealand faces many potential disasters. In some cases, such as a weather related or volcanic disaster, there may be time for a warning. This website will show you how to get ready, so you'll get through.

For all of you who have been with me from the start, Thank you for always being open and eager to learn from me as I've created, planned, delivered and tested all my Kiwi language and Kiwi culture workshops and fun interactive lesson sessions with you, in person and online over the past almost 2 years! 🥳🤩😊

During this time I've had the pleasure of upskilling and educating myself via English language tutor training, online language teaching study and evolving my Te Reo Maori & Maori Tikanga knowledge and skills at incorporated with my own local Indigenous born and raised knowledge, awareness & expertise and I've utilized all of this value to educate and support the following people:

Migrant mothers from all around the world raising young families in NZ

Shy International students who live on campus

Excited university graduates who live among the locals

Extremely ambitious International professionals desperate to find a job that meets their visa requirements to stay in NZ

Here are the things they all have in common:

Do not speak English as their first language

Not aware of Maori culture or Maori language before coming to NZ

Find the Kiwi English and Kiwi accent very challenging to understand

Very little to zero awareness of our bi-cultural and multi-cultural history as a people and as a country

Often feeling isolated, alone and little to NO confidence to connect with local Kiwis

Most live or only associate with people who only speak their native language therefore they don't get the regular daily practice to build their confidence and communication skills.

Lastly, I'm inspired by every single one of them for their courage to leave home and their determined motivated spirit to venture across the world and navigate through all the barriers and challenges of a foreign language, a foreign culture, and a new way of life.
