🚛 Big progress this week at Palmerston North Hospital!

In the early hours of Tuesday and Thursday morning, five heavy, lead-lined modules arrived on site from Ohakune. This marks a major milestone for our new modular CT project.

Together, these modules will form a 450m² purpose-built facility, helping us deliver faster and more accessible diagnostic services for our community.

⚡ Why modular? Speed matters.

One of the key advantages of modular builds is how quickly they come together. While groundwork happens on site, the building is constructed off site at the same time. This approach helps us deliver this important project much faster, without compromising on quality.

This modular CT unit is an interim facility that will support patients while longer-term hospital redevelopment planning continues.

✅ It is built to the same clinical and safety standards as permanent hospital facilities
✅ Part of a wider plan to upgrade and strengthen Palmerston North Hospital’s facilities

When complete, the new unit will house two CT scanners, one replacing an ageing machine and a second to significantly boost scanning capacity. This will help more patients receive timely diagnoses and reduce pressure across the hospital system, supporting patient flow through ED, planned surgeries, and care for time-critical conditions.

📅 On track to go live later this year

A big thank you to the teams who worked through the night to make this happen. Stay tuned as we continue building better healthcare for our region. 💙

Our Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora MidCentral digital team is welcoming back a familiar face, with Gibson Ruhere-Blank joining the Deskside Team through to 30 June.

Gibson is returning to MidCentral in what many in the team describe as a “boomerang” moment, having worked with the service previously in a similar role.

His return comes at a helpful time, as the deskside team continues working through a backlog of requests from across the hospital. With additional support alongside the team, staff can expect faster progress resolving outstanding tickets and digital issues.

Deskside teams play an important role behind the scenes. They help staff stay connected to the systems, devices and technology that support patient care, often stepping in to solve problems quickly so clinical and support teams can keep moving.

For Gibson, returning to MidCentral brings the added advantage of already knowing the environment and many of the people he will be working with.

That familiarity means he can get stuck in quickly, supporting our staff and helping move through the queue of requests as efficiently as possible.

The MidCentral Deskside Service Team Lead, Kerry Jones says; "It’s great to have Gibson back and contributing once again. His experience and knowledge of the service will be a valuable asset as the team focusses on clearing the backlog and keeping digital support flowing for staff across the hospital."

Welcome back Gibson, help coming from someone who already knows the place well is the best kind of help!
