He panui tēnei ki te hāpori o Paekākāriki.

This week following our community board meeting I (Kelsey) resigned as Chair of our board as my whānau will be moving to Ōtaki. This wasn’t a decision we made lightly with my partners family having lived here for decades and wanting to raise our children here but with house prices being what they are we’ve had to make the hard decision.

I have loved holding this important role within the village, particularly the relationships I’ve built with many people and groups but I believe it’s in the best interest of this community to have the chair of our board living in the village - it’s easier to be across any issues when you walk/drive past them regularly and can chat to people down at the dairy!

I will still be on the board and we will still be in the village every week for Playcentre and
Elyse (the deputy chair) will be stepping into the chair role. Our deputy chair will be elected at the next community board meeting.

Nei ra te mihi ki a koutou, te tino hāpori ❤️

At today's council meeting a motion was put forward by Councillor Laracy to review the council's climate emergency declaration. We heard from our community in the lead up to the hui, and again at Tuesday's Board meeting where we made clear our position as a Board: that we opposed the motion. Today Deputy Chair Elyse Robert and Councillor Himiona Grace spoke against the motion before council. We acknowledge the efforts of Paekākāriki residents Christian, Christina, and Lucy, who delivered their arguments against this motion during the public speaking time.

The motion went to a vote and was supported solely by Cr Laracy, resultingly the motion was not passed and no review will be conducted.

Feedback closes at midnight, Tuesday 30 June.

Tell us what matters most to you to help shape Council's thinking and inform a response for the Simplifying Local Government Head Start pathway. Give feedback and help shape future council services and representation.

📣Kāpiti Good Sorts award nominations close this Sunday 31 May at 5pm.
Do you know a good sort in our community who deserves some recognition?

The Kāpiti Good Sorts Awards recognise individual residents who’ve made a lasting impact in the community. It’s about celebrating our local heroes – those who care about our community and work hard to make a difference for those who call Kāpiti home.

Kāpiti Good Sorts Awards are awarded to individuals who show kotahitanga (community spirit) by:

Taha Rangatira - leading by example, through compassion and kindness, to support and serve our communities.
Taha Manaaki - enhancing the wellbeing of vulnerable people in our community.
Taha whānau - creating new ways to help our communities be safe, healthy, thriving, and connected.
