CUSTOMER USE GUIDELINES

We welcome your comments, questions and encourage discussion here on our page. Please remember to be polite and respectful with your comments to other users, and council staff responding to your comments and questions. If you have a request for service for council to fix or ‘do’ something, you need to call our team on 0800 734 000. While we’re monitoring comments,

we do not log one-off service requests from comments on our social media pages. When we ask for your feedback in a post or seek submissions as part of a submission process then we may record your comments and supply these to elected members as part of their decision making . That means your profile name, and comment may form part of a council report which will be on the public record on our website in the future years to come, and available to people making requests under the Local Government Act Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA). All communication with the council over social media channels is subject to the Public Records Act 2005 as they are considered to be local authority records (as defined in the Act). All responses, posts, comments or any other activity on our page will be collected and retained for as long as is required by their approved records disposal schedule. Access to retained social media posts and responses that are no longer live on the social media channel is through our usual official information request (LGOIMA) process. If you want to share feedback with our elected members, we encourage you to make submissions during consultation processes or reach out to them. Their contact details are available here: https://www.otodc.govt.nz/about-council/mayor-councillors-and-boards

RUBBISH BAG UPDATE & RURAL RECYCLING TEMPORARY CLOSURES

From 1 July, Evolve Ventures Limited will begin delivering Council's new kerbside rubbish collection service.

NEW RED COUNCIL RUBBISH BAGS
Council has changed to red rubbish bags to align with the nationally recognised colour for general rubbish. Red bags are now available from:
• Ōtorohanga District Council reception
• Ōtorohanga Waste Transfer Station
The red bags will also become available at local supermarkets once existing yellow bag stock has sold through.

WHAT ABOUT THE YELLOW BAGS?
The yellow bags were part of Council's previous kerbside collection service. Enviro NZ (were known as EnviroWaste), the former contractor, has advised it will continue collecting yellow bags as part of its own private waste collection service. This private service operates independently of Council and is not part of Council's contract with Evolve Ventures Limited, which applies to the new red Council rubbish bags only. Please note - stores may choose to continue to sell yellow bags, as well as red bags.

RURAL RECYCLING SITE UPGRADES
The recycling drop-off facilities at Arohena School, Korakonui School, Maihiihi School and Ngutunui School will be upgraded and will be closed from 1 - 17 July.
During this time, you can continue to recycle free of charge at the Ōtorohanga Waste Transfer Station, 40 Progress Drive, which is open 10am - 4pm every day except Thursdays. Household batteries can also be dropped off there free of charge.

More info - including recycling details and days of collection - can be found at www.otodc.govt.nz/council-services/rubbish-and-recycling

HAVE YOUR SAY – OUR KING COUNTRY FUTURE

Ōtorohanga and Waitomo District Council are exploring what local government could look like in the future through the Government's Head Start reform pathway.

As part of this process, we're seeking early community feedback to help us understand local views, identify opportunities and concerns, and inform the development of a Head Start outline proposal exploring whether the two councils should join together as a single council.

No final decisions have been made.

The Government has given councils just three months to prepare an outline proposal, so this initial engagement period is short.

Complete the questionnaire here: https://engage.otodc.govt.nz/embeds/projects/107667/survey-tools/124944

💙 FAREWELL TASH 💙

Today is a bittersweet day as we say farewell to Tash after an incredible journey with Ōtorohanga District Council.

Tash first joined us at just 21 years old, looking for some work experience in an office environment. Since then, she has grown alongside our organisation, taking on three different roles and becoming a valued member of the team.

Along the way, Tash not only completed her accounting diploma qualifications but excelled in them, showing the dedication, determination and professionalism that have become her trademark.

Today, Tash takes the next exciting step in her career, moving just across the road to a Chartered Accounting firm, where she will continue her studies and further develop her expertise.

While we're sad to see her go, we're incredibly proud of everything she has achieved and grateful for the contribution she has made to our organisation and community over the years.

Please join us in wishing Tash all the very best for this next chapter. We have no doubt she has a bright future ahead of her.

Ngā mihi and good luck, Tash – we'll be cheering you on every step of the way!
