💰 He Mahere Pūtea | Building a Strong Financial Future

Money can either control us, or become a tool that helps us achieve our goals.

Through this wānanga we took a deeper look at budgeting, spending habits, financial planning and the systems that help us stay on track.

From setting SMARTER goals and creating realistic budgets to understanding debt, savings and the power of compound interest, we're building practical skills that support long-term financial wellbeing for our whānau.

Because financial freedom isn't about how much money you make, it's about having a plan for the money you have ✨🏡
Small steps. Clear goals. Stronger futures for our people ❤️

Whare and wealth don't start with a mortgage application, they start with mindset🏡

In this wānanga we explored pathways to home ownership, from papakāinga and building on Māori land to shared ownership and rent-to-buy opportunities. Alongside that, we talked on a deeper look at our spending beliefs, habits and the relationship we have with money.

Because creating a future for our whānau isn't just about finding a house, it's about building the knowledge, confidence and financial foundations to make that dream possible.

Whare, whānau and financial wellbeing go hand in hand.

Big mihi to our whānau who were in attendance of these wānanga over the last 12 months.

Our Community Foodbank supports whānau every day, from all walks of life.

As the cost of living continues to rise, many of our people are feeling the pressure. Yet even in challenging times, our community continues to show its generosity, compassion and commitment to looking after one another.

This donation is a beautiful reminder that kindness is alive and well in Ōpōtiki. Thank you to New World Ōpōtiki.

Your support means more than you know. ❤️

As part of our Family2Family campaign, our community generously gifted food and essential items to support local whānau in need ❤️

At New World Ōpōtiki, we have chosen to match the value of those gifts in cash, donating $1,690 to the Whakaatu Whanaunga Trust. This contribution will help support those who are most vulnerable and in need within our community.

We’re proud to support this amazing kaupapa and the incredible work Whakaatu Whanaunga Trust do to make a real difference for whānau in our community ❤️

Kia ora e te whānau 🤍

As the colder months settle in, the need within our hapori continues to grow. Our foodbank is currently stocking our freezers and we’re reaching out to our local hunters, farmers and community for support.

We are looking to purchase:
🥩 Whole beasts
🐑 Tamed mutton
🐖 Pork

If you or someone you know may be able to help, please get in touch. Every contribution helps us continue supporting whānau across our rohe with dignity, warmth and kai on the table.

Ngā mihi nui for always standing beside our people 🫶🏽

Riria and Wharekawa are a true testament to an ecosystem that continues to nurture and support our uri here in Whakatōhea.
We are proud to walk alongside them and their whānau during their navigations of life and even more so sharing their journey to the world to show the strength, power and beauty of our community of Ōpōtiki and the services within.
