8th of December 2005
Just to clarify Norsewood got a brand-new petrol/diesel tank installed. All fundraised and owned by the Community. A very proud year to secure for the future and keep Norsewood pumping.

Norsewood Community Owned Fuel Outlet.

Since 2005 the Community (Promotions) has received 3cents & Scandi Superette 8cents per litre sold.
We are not linked to any card discount system, so we are becoming less competitive & nearing cut even status after paying the costs, Insurance, Compliance, Weights & Measures etc. All funded from the 3 cents.

G.A.S. Are proposing, at their cost to change this to a card & cash system, especially Everyday Rewards. Fuel will then be available 24/7. G.A.S will also cover all our present outgoings.
In return G.A.S. will pay us $22,000 incl. GST annually, as a fee for 10 years. Subject to 2.5-year reviews. This is similar to the present return. This will be shared with Scandi Superette on the same split as at present.
The community will continue to own the fuel tank. When it reaches its use by date, the community will have a decision to make. Legally it has 5 yrs left but provided it continues to perform we can keep using it after that time. A proportion of the income will be saved annually into a replacement fund.
At present what is left of the 3 cents is used to keep the Info Centre functioning & producing our Tourist brochure.
The Promotions committee & Scandi Superette (operators), agree with this proposal.

📢 Tamaki nui-ā-rua whānau - have your say on our future!

This week Tararua District Council has been holding hui across the rohe to talk about potential council amalgamation, a big decision that will impact us for generations.

Two pathways ahead:
👉 Head Start – we choose our direction (within ~3 months)
👉 Backstop – Government decides for us

Options being considered:
✅ Go South (Wairarapa/Wellington)
✅ Rangitāne preferred option
✅ Go North (Hawke’s Bay)
✅ Go West (Horizons Region)
✅ Split the district
✅ Shared services (keep councils, work together)
✅ Wait and risk Government decision

Each option has trade-offs:
✔️ Better access to services + resources
⚠️ Risk to our local voice, identity & representation

🗣️ What locals are saying at hui:
• Concern about losing our local voice
• Not enough time or info yet
• No clear preferred option
• Interest in keeping local decision-making

Time is short, feedback is needed within the next week
Council wants to hear:
• Your preferred option(s) (ranked if possible)
• What you do NOT support

Why this matters: These decisions will affect our
- Taiao
- Whānau, hapū & marae
- Representation
- Services & infrastructure
- Rates and future direction of our rohe

E te iwi, please share your whakaaro.
It’s important that Rangitāne voices are heard in decisions shaping our future.
