Ngongotahā Volunteer Fire Brigade is pleased to announce the appointment of Ren Keepa as our new Chief Fire Officer.

Taking on the role of Chief Fire Officer is a significant responsibility, and we acknowledge the dedication and leadership required to step into this position.

As he begins this new chapter, we wish him all the very best. We look forward to seeing the brigade continue to grow and serve our community under his leadership.

Winter is the season for house fires.

As the temperature drops, preventable house fires increase 17 percent on average as people do what they can to keep themselves warm.

Most of these fires will start from items such as clothing, beds or couches being too close to a heater or a fire.

These fires can be fatal but that is preventable with some good habits.

So, instead of bombarding you with every hot tip at once, we’ll build one good habit at a time with our winter fire safety series of Hot Tips 🔥

In this series, we’ll cover:
1. Cooking critic turned lifesaver – the humble life of a smoke alarm 🚨
2. Escape my house – a race to get out 🏃‍♂️
3. Size does matter, why items must be 1 metre from the heater 📏
4. Hot under the covers with electric blankets 🛌
5. Belly button or dryer lint – which is more hazardous? 🫧
6. It’s spaghetti junction at the multi-board 🍝

So, whether you own a home, rent or live with family, building some good habits this winter could save your life.

What an incredible night!

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, supported, donated, purchased raffle tickets, volunteered, and helped make our Ngongotahā Fire Quiz Night such a success.

From the fantastic team names and friendly competition to the amazing prizes and raffles, the night was a great reminder of the incredible support we receive from our community.

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, we were able to give away thousands of dollars’ worth of prizes, vouchers, experiences, and raffle items back to our community throughout the evening. Seeing so many winners walk away with fantastic prizes was a real highlight of the night.

Our newest firefighter Rhylie recently passed her recruit course! 👩‍🚒🔥

Not only did she complete the challenge with determination and hard work, she also snagged herself Ngongotahā Rookie of the Year for 2025.
