We recently partnered with Gold Coast Magazine to showcase Taranaki as a hiking and surfing paradise to high-value Australian travellers.

Our striking natural landscapes and creative coastal communities hit the mark – reaching over 546,000 viewers and gaining almost 10,000 interactions across the multi-channel campaign which included a feature editorial article, email newsletters, digital display banners, and a range of social media posts.

This is all part of our ongoing regional promotions mahi, helping to build awareness and travel intent of Taranaki as a like no other New Zealand destination for Australian travellers.

🚛 Hydrogen hits the road in Taranaki.

This week, Hiringa Energy Ltd and TR Group brought a hydrogen-powered truck to Taranaki, coinciding with the NZ Hydrogen Council’s Speaker Series, offering a chance to see one of the technologies helping shape the future of heavy transport.
But it's also an opportunity to reflect on how far the region has come.

In 2019, the H2 Taranaki Roadmap, developed through Tapuae Roa, set out a bold vision for hydrogen-powered transport, refuelling infrastructure, green hydrogen production and new industry opportunities. At the time, many of those ideas felt ambitious.

Today, we're seeing real progress. From the Kapuni green hydrogen project to New Zealand's first hydrogen refuelling network, Taranaki businesses like Hiringa Energy have helped move hydrogen from strategy to reality, with real infrastructure, commercial partnerships and local talent playing a pivotal role.

🌿 A new partnership between Wild for Taranaki and Te Puna Umanga Venture Taranaki will explore opportunities to unlock investment in biodiversity restoration, while supporting environmental, social, and economic outcomes for Taranaki.

Supported by funding from Toi Foundation, the project will bring together conservation groups, iwi and hapū, businesses, investors and tourism operators to identify opportunities across nature-based tourism, conservation technology, education and nature-positive investment.

By recognising the value biodiversity already creates for our region, the initiative aims to strengthen long-term restoration efforts and build credible pathways for future investment.

This work aligns with Tapuae Roa and our wider efforts to explore the future of our region’s visitor economy and nature-based experiences. 🌱

🎬 Lights, camera… Taranaki.

Earlier this year we were out on location, filming content for our new shoulder season campaign, designed to inspire domestic visitors to explore Taranaki outside of typical peak travel periods.

That campaign, Escape the Ordinary, is now live. 💫

Running until the end of June across TVNZ, bus backs and billboards in Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Whanganui, Manawatū, Christchurch and Wellington, alongside paid social media and YouTube, it's reaching domestic travellers right across the motu with the simple message that Taranaki is worth the detour.

Early numbers are strong, with over 96,000 people reached on Meta, 26,000+ views on YouTube, and organic content pulling in over 107,000 views and counting.

Watch this space for a full campaign wrap at the end of June. 🌋

Last week, our Janet Reynolds, our GM Destination and Melissa Devine, our Visitor and Events Advisor attended TRENZ 2026, New Zealand’s largest travel trade event. ✈️🏔️

Across the week they met with more than 50 agents from key offshore markets, to showcase 21 commissionable, bookable Taranaki visitor products.

We recently had the privilege of hosting six Tourism New Zealand trade professionals from Australia, India, the UK, and Singapore in our region, and what better way to showcase a destination than to let people actually experience it? 👏

The team immersed themselves in some of the best Taranaki has to offer — world-class contemporary art at the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre, a deeply meaningful cultural experience at Te Whare Hononga, the Taste of Taranaki food producer tour with Discover Taranaki, and expert local storytelling and transportation through . 🍝🖼🚌⛪

This isn't about briefing trade partners on what exists, it's about letting them feel it. When they return to their markets, they're equipped to educate and inspire the operators they work with, so that when someone asks about New Zealand, Taranaki is front of mind.

Our Destination team continue this mahi at TRENZ this week. New Zealand's largest international travel trade event. 🌋✨
