Excellent community and business turnout. National Park School successfully hosted a fundraiser, with all proceeds supporting the term 3 ski program. Over 50 registered cars competed for the "people's choice award" and more custom cars visited for the morning

The Alpine Vintage & Classic Auto Show continues to grow as a highlight of the King’s Birthday Weekend calendar — combining classic vehicles, local hospitality and community spirit in the heart of Waimarino at the National Park School grounds.

Event Schedule 31st May 2026
• Gates Open – 9:00am
• Tea, Coffee, Cake & BBQ – 9:30am to 1:00pm
• Vehicle Judging – 11:00am to 12:30pm
• Best of Show Awards – 12:30pm to 1:00pm
• Ruapehu Mountain Run Gathering – 1:00pm onwards

Vehicle entries close Friday, May 29, 2026.

A piece of history discovered near Pipiriki now sits in the Whanganui Regional Museum 😍

A megalodon tooth, from a shark that once reached lengths of up to 20 metres. A reminder that this landscape was once beneath the ocean.

Fossils like this can still be found throughout the Whanganui region, traces of an ancient seabed now lifted into hills and valleys.

Ride the Whanganui River Road, follow the river out, and continue your journey through Whanganui to where the shore of Te Tai-o-Rēhua, the Tasman Sea, lies today.
