⭐ Nominate a local legend for a Napier Civic Award ⭐

Last year, we were thrilled to recognise Alison Beckham with a Civic Award, acknowledging 25 years of dedication to Napier’s young people through the Scouting movement.

Known affectionately as "Kiwi", Alison has been the driving force behind St Augustine’s Scouts for decades. Through her leadership, energy and care, she has helped generations of young people build confidence, develop life skills and feel a sense of belonging.

Alison has also championed inclusive practices that ensure neurodivergent tamariki feel welcomed, supported and celebrated for who they are. Her impact reaches far beyond Scouting, helping shape strong, kind and resilient young people who carry her influence with them.

Stories like Alison’s reflect the many humble heroes in our city, people who give their time, energy and care to others, often without recognition.

The Napier Civic Awards celebrate volunteers, mentors, coaches, organisers and community champions who help make our city what it is.

If someone in your life goes above and beyond for their community, now is the time to put their name forward. Nominate your local legend 👉 www.napier.govt.nz/civic-awards

🏉 Game on at Park Island!

We turned the first sod in 2025, then grew the grass in autumn. Now fields one and two are finished and ready for Napier Pirate to play its first games this Saturday.

Mayor Richard McGrath couldn't resist a run on the new turf, lining up alongside Councillors Ronda Chrystal and Keith Price for the ceremonial first kick-off. Verdict? Worth the wait! 🏉

It's a big day for Napier Pirate Rugby and Sports Club, who've spent years splitting game days between two grounds, and an even bigger one for the Park Island community. These fields are for everyone, from junior boots, future Magpies and weekend warriors to the whānau cheering from the sideline 🖤🤍

Field three will join them later this year but this weekend, grab a seat on the sideline and see what seven months of hard work looks like in action. 🌱

Do you know someone who goes above and beyond for our community? We want to hear about them! 💙

Last year, we were proud to recognise David Low with a Civic Award, honouring a lifetime of service that has helped shape the way Napier is experienced and remembered.

For 37 years, David has given his time and heart to the Art Deco Trust, sharing his knowledge of Napier’s architecture and history and connecting thousands of people to the city’s story. Beyond his work with the Trust, his contributions at Council helped transform the Sunken Gardens and Anderson Park into places enjoyed by generations. He has given so much of himself to the city he calls home, enriching the lives of countless people along the way.

Stories like David’s reflect the many humble heroes in our city, people who give their time, energy and care to others, often without recognition.

The Napier Civic Awards celebrate volunteers, mentors, coaches, organisers and community champions who help make our city what it is. People who show up, support others and make a real difference behind the scenes.

🔧 Things are taking shape beside Pūrimu Stream 🙌

If you've been watching from SH2 or the Hawke's Bay Trails, you might have spotted the scaffolding and plastic wrap on site. Beneath it, the new framing and trusses are up and in place, getting ready for the next stage.

Still to come before the end of June, we’ll be cladding, spouting and flashing the new roof before the whole pump station gets a fresh lick of paint.

This small but hard-working pump station has been protecting nearby homes, streets and land from flooding since the 1970s. The new roof will keep it doing exactly that with little fuss for decades to come.

Work is on track for completion by end of June 👷
