Muriwai Volunteer Fire Brigade

Muriwai Volunteer Fire Brigade Muriwai Volunteer Fire Brigade In November 2014 we became part of the New Zealand Fire Service.

A Proud Tradition in Muriwai
Muriwai Volunteer Fire Force was established in the 1965 by a group of locals who were worried that the communities isolation left it vulnerable to fires and other emergencies. The brigade stated life as a 'Fire Party' out of a small shed (still present at the back of our current station) with fire fighting equipment that was funded by the community after a lot of ha

rd work fundraising and and effort from individuals in the community and brigade members personally chipping in cash. Over time the brigade has evolved and we became a Rural Fire Force, part of the National Rural Fire Authority and funded mainly by Auckland Council. Currently the Brigade operates a Mitsubishi pump tender and a specialised Ford Ranger 4WD for off road emergencies such as beach rescues. One thing is consistent through the years; the dedication and commitment of a group of local residents to ensure we have a fire and rescue capability to protect and serve the community.

Hi Community. With the weather cooling off and the use of heating devices increasing it’s a good time to look at your smoke alarm maintenance.

If you need any assistance with checking, testing or positioning of new alarms the brigade is more than happy to help with a Home Fire Safety Visit.

Muriwai fire Brigade requires a reliable local lawn contractor for fortnightly mowing, this consists of lawn areas and 2 banks that require w**d eating when needed. This would suit a contractor with a ride on mower and would need to be GST registered.

We had a fire incident in the forest over the weekend and would like to thank all the surrounding brigades for their tireless work in helping us control the situation.

This is a timely reminder for the local Muriwai community to be prepared. In the event of Wildfire, “Don’t wait until there is smoke in the air to prepare".
In a wildfire emergency, you may suddenly have to leave home for an extended period with very little warning. The best thing you can do, is prepare well and have an evacuation plan ready, for your family, animals and property.

This includes:
* reducing the risk of an accidental fire by checking it’s all right before you light https://www.checkitsalright.nz/
* property maintenance and preparation.
* being prepared before a Wildfire.
* knowing what to do during a Wildfire.
* staying informed.

Muriwai Fire Brigade suggests you look at the following link to help in your preparation. https://www.fireandemergency.nz/outdoor-and-rural-fire-safety/when-wildfire-threatens/

Today, on the second year anniversary since Cyclone Gabriel, we remember Craig and Dave.

We miss serving the community alongside them every time we head out on a call out, and we also know that there are a lot who loved and knew them still feeling the ache of their absence.

As a brigade we will do our best to help our community when we can, always with a positive attitude just as Dave and Craig would’ve done. No job was too hard or arduous for either of them.

While we can’t fill their void, we will continue to work as a brigade to remember them, always, and hope that we are doing them proud every time the siren sounds.

We love and miss you Dave and Craig. We will all come together tonight and toast to you both. Love MVFB.
