Ever wondered how to start a conversation about alcohol use without it feeling awkward or overwhelming?

The Alcohol Risk Communication Tool is here to help! Developed by researchers at the National Institute for Health Innovation and The University of Auckland, and funded by Health Promotion, Health New Zealand, this interactive tool makes it easier to talk openly about alcohol wellbeing in a supportive and non-judgemental way.

Using the World Health Organization’s AUDIT screening tool, it helps health professionals and individuals too better understand alcohol-related risks and start positive conversations around health and wellbeing.

Whether you’re a health worker, support person, or simply curious about your own habits, this is a great resource to explore.

Because small conversations can lead to big positive changes.

The Alcohol Risk Communication Tool was designed, developed and tested by researchers at the National Institute for Health Innovation and The University of Auckland, and funded by Health Promotion, Health New Zealand.

It was an absolute privilege for members of our Sahaayta family to attend the Fiji Girmit Remembrance Day commemorations in Auckland. Together with a beautifully vibrant, full-house community, we gathered to honor the incredible resilience, heart, and sacrifices of the Girmitiyas who paved the way starting in 1879.
Between the moving stage presentations, the warmth of the community elders, and a deeply touching heritage display of old family artifacts, the evening was a powerful reminder of the strength found in our roots.
We are so grateful to have shared in this beautiful space of remembrance, connection, and pride in our collective identity.

New Zealand has unveiled its first-ever Substance Harm Action Plan aimed at tackling addiction and reducing drug-related harm nationwide.

The plan focuses on prevention, early intervention, better access to support services, and strengthening the addiction workforce.
Health experts say the initiative could save lives and provide stronger support for families and communities affected by substance abuse.

The NZ Drug Foundation is welcoming the plan, saying it has many interventions the sector has long called for.
