On 1 June 2026, Martinborough Volunteer Fire Brigade were called to a water tank on fire!

"How can a water tank catch fire?" you may ask. As unbelievable as it seems, it's true.
The homeowner had ashes from their fireplace and after waiting a few days for them to cool, disposed of them in their compost bin next to the tank. Unfortunately, a few days was not enough.

🔥Hot tip: Ashes can take up 5 days to cool completely! We recommend that all ashes are emptied into a metal bin, water poured over them, and then left to cool completely for 5 days to before pouring them out.

Lost? Not on our watch!
Make sure your property number is clearly visible from the street, including RAPID numbers so that we can find you quickly and easily. If you live down a right of way, ensure your properties are clearly numbered, not just at the start of the right of way.

It might seem like a small detail, but in an emergency, every second counts.
A clear number can help firefighters, police, and paramedics find your home quickly.
