Hōkio Beach residents - please be aware of a planned water shutdown on Monday 15 June.

We're carrying out an emergency fire hydrant replacement to help maintain the reliability and safety of the Hōkio Beach water network.

To complete this work safely, water will be temporarily shut off to all properties connected to the Hōkio Beach supply from 6pm to approximately 11pm.

Please make sure you have enough drinking water set aside before 6pm and plan ahead for any water-dependent activities.

Thank you for your patience while we carry out this important work. Check the map below to see the affected area and send to anyone who you know may be impacted.

What does the future of our town centre look like, and how did we get here?

Step inside a new interactive exhibition at Te Takeretanga o Kura-hau-pō and take a journey through time, from the roots of Levin | Taitoko to the possibilities ahead.

What you’ll find:
→ Heritage photos and stories stretching back to the late 1800s
→ The brand story of Levin | Taitoko
→ Videos and interactive displays bringing our past and present to life
→ A timeline of the Levin Town Centre Transformation, the big ideas, partnerships, and milestones shaping our future

At its heart, this exhibition is about transformation, and the people behind it. Every generation has helped shape this place we call home. Now it’s our turn.

🗣️ Have your say:
→ Share your whakaaro on community voice boards
→ Watch the journey unfold through video
→ Dream big with an aspirational look at what Levin could become

This is your chance to reflect on where we’ve been, see what’s happening now, and help shape what comes next.
No pressure… but future generations are counting on us. Check out what Cr Sam Jennings has to say about the exhibition.

- Open throughout June
- Free entry
Pop in, bring a mate, and leave your mark on Levin’s story.

🐕 Introducing Pawmanent dog tags

We’re excited to bring you Pawmanent dog tags – a brand-new lifetime tag designed to stay with your dog for life.

That means:
🐾 No more replacing tags every year
🐾 Less hassle for dog owners
🐾 Less waste for our environment

Your dog keeps the same tag year after year – you’ll simply renew their registration annually to keep your details up to date.

A small tag can make a big difference.

Dog registration fees do more than just cover a tag — they help keep our community safe and support dog welfare, including responding to complaints, reuniting lost dogs, providing shelter services, and delivering education for owners and schools.

Meet Benji (or Benny to his friends). At 14½ years old, he’s a certified good boy who loves food, naps, and being a total softie. Honestly, he’s never done a single thing wrong in his life… a perfect angel 🐾

Heads up, whānau! Safer speeds outside schools are on the way 🚸

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi - Manawatū-Whanganui & Taranaki will be rolling out variable speed limits outside schools on state highways across Manawatū–Whanganui this June.

At busy school times, speeds will drop to 30km/h or 60km/h (depending on the road). Outside those times, the usual speed limit applies, with signs letting you know when changes are in effect.

This is part of a nationwide push to keep tamariki safe, with all schools required to have these systems in place by 1 July 2026.

What you can expect to see in Horowhenua:
Mostly smooth sailing but with some short stop/go traffic management while work is underway

This should make things alot easier and safer, especially during those busy drop-off and pick-up times.
Horowhenua Schools included in the rollout are listed below 👇

🚸 Poroutawhao School
Variable Speed Limit: 60 km/h
Permanent Speed Limit: 100 km/h

🚸 St Mary's Catholic School
Variable Speed Limit: 30 km/h
Permanent Speed Limit: 50 km/h

🚸 Tokomaru School
Variable Speed Limit: 30 km/h
Permanent Speed Limit: 70 km/h

🚸 Ōpiki School
Variable Speed Limit: 30 km/h
Permanent Speed Limit: 80 km/h

Local government across New Zealand is in a period of significant change!

New Government direction, rising infrastructure costs, changes to how water services will be delivered, and increasing pressure to keep rates affordable are all coming together at the same time.

Recent announcements have added urgency. Councils have been given a short timeframe to work with others in their region to consider how local government could be reorganised, with a clear signal that change is coming, whether councils lead it or not.

Normally, work of this scale would involve detailed modelling, formal consultation, and longer timeframes to test different options with our community. That is not the environment we are working in.
Come and talk with us

These informal sessions are a chance to learn more about the change in front of us and provide you a chance to have your say. We’ll share what we know and where we are at in the process.
We’ll also ask for your feedback on whether you support amalgamation and why, share our draft community outcomes for discussion and hear your views on what’s really important to you as we navigate the change ahead.
