Horowhenua Volunteer Fire Brigade

Horowhenua Volunteer Fire Brigade The Horowhenua Volunteer Fire Brigade is a specialist wildfire brigade, based out of the Levin Fire Station.

We are a specialist wildfire brigade, and typically respond to about 70 emergency calls per year. Most calls are to vegetation fires, but weโ€™ll also respond to structure and vehicle fires in non-reticulated areas of the district or where 4WD access is required. Weโ€™ll get called out for severe weather events and all of our firefighters are trained as medical co-responders.

From 14-20 June 2026 it's Te Wiki Tลซao ฤ-Motu | National Volunteer Week.

We're kicking off the week with a few facts about Fire and Emergency New Zealand volunteers:
๐Ÿ”ฅ Volunteers make up around 80% of our workforce
๐Ÿ”ฅ There are nearly 600 volunteer fire brigades across Aotearoa New Zealand
๐Ÿ”ฅ There are more than 11,800 volunteer firefighters

We're incredibly proud of the members of our team that form part of these numbers and make our brigade what it is. We are excited for you to get to know them a little better.

Where would Horowhenua Volunteer Fire Brigade be without the employers who support our members when a call comes in?

Behind every volunteer who responds to an emergency is often an employer willing to adjust workloads, cover shifts, reshuffle meetings, or simply say, "Go."

Today, we would like to acknowledge and thank all of the employers who support our brigade members. Your willingness to allow staff to respond when our community needs them plays a vital role in keeping our community safe.
